We're "advertising" here in the sense that we've given a notice that the development exists, that we're looking for those who might be interested in working on a new project, and that we want to get feedback from people who have played a similar mod in the past and present, as they'd know better than anyone what works and what doesn't from their point of view.

You're not going to make any of us feel bad for working on a project we're passionate about, and sharing it with people who might be interested in its development. Discovery is, for better or for worse, one of the few remaining Freelancer communities, and probably the only one with significant traffic remaining. To not give them at least a brief notice for interest's sake and ask for suggestions and feedback would essentially be game design suicide. I don't see how this will pull players away, people have a choice to connect to either. If it does pull people away(in such a way that they stop connecting to disco altogether) it'll be the ones who have lost interest in discovery long ago, and the way I see it wanting those people stick around on disco is just to keep arbitrary numbers high. To make it look like it's more active than it is. Players who don't care about something are inclined to break rules and probably won't contribute. I am genuinely excited about this as it gives people something new to look forward to and will potentially introduce new people to the game and could even indirectly make new people come to disco as well.
I'll be sure to make the time to join the aftermath server when it's up and running. Best of luck, I can't wait Smile

Let's say this does push players away or whatever, unintentionally or otherwise. Competition between both mods may be a good thing; it'd encourage innovation. Nothing stops people from playing both anyway.

Same idea visited my head few months ago.
Idea of interface providing replacement for usual chat /commands to make FLHook functionality feel not that alien, but more freelancer-like (integrated as you said).

The most problem there is to make it mimic freelancer HUD (read HUD settings from FL files), not overlapping other interface elements and just convenient.

I spent 3 months (working for several hours a day) trying to disassemble how the UI work and creating a hook that could successfully emulate the UI. It's not easy to do and will sap a lot of your soul trying to do it. However, now that I've got it working, implementing buttons and such is fairly easy. The only thing that is still fairly mysterious to me (hard to understand) is how FL handles UI positional data - there is very little consistency from what I can tell.
