(I also proposed removing the "discovery isnt playing fun alone" line after that post here: https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...pid1935927 but as usual it got ignored)

I just read that thread Karlotta. It is interesting that this very same conversation has been had before! Thank you for sharing

Heck, if possible, could we see if there is possible to get a "most active system or region" tracker too?

I certianly see value in both of those features. Nice ideas. Once this proposed subforum redesign has been fully discussed fully by members / Game Masters & Mods I would be happy to help you push for those features to be implemented too.

I edited the post and added something about how staff processes (or fails to process) ideas like yours (and mine). Hope you don't miss it, and post it in the last thread I linked too.

While I made my account years ago I only recently became active and I have to say that from a fairly noobish and new perspective I like the modified layout, it is cleaner and more approachable for somebody just diving in.

Does anyone else have further constructive criticism or support?

Events:

Official server events and player made events are, and need to remain, two separate, distinct entities. My preferred way of handling this is by moving this subforum:
https://discoverygc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=28
To this forum:
https://discoverygc.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=411

Trying to mix the two won't work well.

Good Luck Out Thee

This is not intuitive at all and ought become a part of LFG as I stated earlier. If I am a new member who has no context, I am not going to understand what the name of that forum means or what it's used for. LFG is universal and ought remain.

Why does this go down and not up? It ought be at the very top.

Thanks for the input Durandal. Please everyone reading this, you're very much welcome to chip in too.

Moving "Events & Competitions" to "Server Events" makes a lot of sense. It keeps things localised.

However I don't follow with the idea of mixing the two not working out well. "Events & Competitions" has currently 3 now useless pinned threads which should be unpinned. see no reason why pinned threads can't instead be dedicated for [Official Events]. This idea keeps ALL events in one webpage. Again localising similar content. Reducing the requirement to click and navigate further to another sub-subforum. Thusly less sub-subforums required.

I have created an image of what "Events & Competitions" & "Server Events" being merged would look like. Notice player events as the main body and then pinned official events. It looks good right?

LFG needs to allow replies to threads firstly. Secondly a rename to "Looking for Players" would make sense.

Then forum members can say "Hi, I am wanting to join a trading faction" to which other memebrs or factions like IC, Bowex etc can reply.

OR forum members can say "Jumping in at 9pm in New York in a Liberty Rogue Destroyer. Anyone welcome to try and stop me. Ship name XYZ" to which members or factions can reply that they'll challenge / hunt / trade with / escort

I agree with that proposed moving of the feedback subforum. Makes sense to me.

The core of this proposal was putting activity encouraging subforums closer to the top. "News and Announcements" is important of course. It is the voice of the staff after all. However it isn't used often and it is a subforum you'd read once every couple of weeks or month? So for that reason alone it made sense to keep it below the more frequently used subforums such as Role-Playing, Factions, Events etc

You dudes will obviously make better forum, no doubt.

I'd like to point on some sources of pain for newcomers. We should keep them somehow, after you bring them in and they face some of first disappointments.

My humble suggestions:

1. Solo tutorial game. A closed system where they would learn basics, like trading, mining and NPC missions. Press a button when it becomes boring and next step is multiplayer.

2. Multiplayer tutorial. Same closed system, but filled with other new players. Angels could help here a lot. New dudes should learn early that nothing big happens when they die in a pixel-shooting game. Redesigning Pennsylvania slightly might work, just keep them entertained there until ready. Solving a kind of knowledge test could reveal the JH out from Pennsylvania.

3. Both tutorials should be involving them GENTLY into reading rules and being rewarded for playing by rules (and fair btw). Rules we have are a wall of text. Spooky! Do anyone... ya know... read it before sanctioned?

4. They should pass both tutorials before being thrown to the wolves (us). They should be friendly but strongly warned about:
a) speaking English is a key to success here
b) not playing by rules will lead them to be fined or bastiled
c) space is dangerous. Not all players are fair. Don't become one of them.

5. Let them in after all that. They will know what to do and more will stay.

Those are very interesting ideas Pepe. I see what problem you are trying to solve.

The major obstacles would be development time vs anticipated reward. There is certainly a reward as you've identified but I fear development time for such unique features is potentially out of reach for our developers who work for nothing in their spare time. It's a good topic to be the basis of a new thread in the development suggestion part of the forums though. I'd be interested in the developers and wider communities thoughts.
