Tried the proposed solution, but issue seems to persist in my case, same error message.
Any other ideas?

Also, question, can tampering with these files to fix this problem cause issues with cheat detection? Afraid of springing up alarms unnecesarily.

Edit: No ingame issues after trying this fix, FLC still fails to open though

do you use the 2.02 ? for me, it works , i use the 2.02 , maybe the other versions are not repairable with this solution!

try to desinstall completely your companion, clean the registry if you know how ! if not don't touch (my advice)

and reinstal

Yes, I did this with the 2.02 downloaded from this web. I tried to do a reinstall before trying the trick on this thread but did not work. I did not feel like trying to tamper with the registry though.

I might just wait for a potential update that might fix this issue. I mostly use FLC for the maps, rather than any other data, so this one works just fine for the moment

Please note, this is an .ini file, and modern versions of Windows will hide the .ini extension.

A step by step of this would be:

Go to folder: Discovery Freelancer 4.91.0\DATA\SOLAR\ASTEROIDS

Highlight - BW17_hirschfield_debris_field.ini (the .ini may be not displayed)

Press Ctrl-C (Copy)

Press Ctrl-V (Paste)

Rename - BW17_hirschfield_debris_field - Copy.ini to BW17_BW17_hirschfield_debris_field.ini


Note that the .ini extension type has a Text file with Gear icon. If your renamed file doesn't have that icon, you have changed the extension.

Problem was fixed by a game patch released today, FLCompanion 2.02 now opens normally
