Bretonian War Cabinet slammed during 'Swords into Ploughshares' debate
NEW LONDON - Fiery scenes have been reported in the Bretonian parliament today, amid fierce rhetorical clashes between MPs representing the Royalist and Liberal Parties. Liberal group leader Morgan Porter (Lambeth district, PNL-LB) controversially joined together with the Federalist representative Robert Bailey (Merton district, PNL-MT) in a striking condemnation of the War Cabinet led by Prime Minister Hacker.

In the debate surrounding the 'Swords into Ploughshares' motion, Porter called for the repeal of the Wartime Powers Act. This legislation authorises the Bretonian War Cabinet to undertake actions deemed necessary for the security of the Bretonian people during times of war. These provisions bypass many of the parliamentary checks and balances that are present during peacetime, allowing the government's executive branch broad latitudes of discretion in wielding their authority.

The Wartime Powers Act was controversially employed as the basis for the compelled nationalisation of Aland Shipyard in the Nottingham System last year. Mr Porter went on to state that, "these powers have created a self-interested Royalist elite that is answerable only to itself and the Queen. 6 months after the formal end of hostilities with the House of Gallia, the continuing reliance on these powers in order to avoid proper scrutiny and accountability to the legitimately elected Parliament is nothing short of inexcusable."

The Swords into Ploughshares motion which sparked this debate concerned the reallocation of funding from the Armed Forces to civil recovery efforts. These would include the reconstruction of Planet New London, the development of Planets Exeter and Sprague, the ongoing duty of care to the Bretonian diaspora located in both Liberty and Rhienland, commercial stimulus packages and broad infrastructure improvements across Bretonian space.

Royalist MP Andrew Maloney (Hyde District, PNL-HY) sharply condemned the motion as 'rank populism', stating that "[the] Powers are necessary for the time being, where decisive actions are required to address a myriad of ongoing threats including the Gallic Enclave and unexpected disturbances to the peace of our borders." Other Royalist MPs decried the Swords into Ploughshares motion as 'softly spoken treason' that would 'disembowel' the Armed Forces and cost Bretonian lives.

It is thought that the motion will be progressed to a formal vote over the following days. Well placed sources state that Liberal, Federalist and Green MPs will set aside their differences to vote in favour of the motion as a unified bloc. Despite this, it is unlikely that the motion will pass into law without the votes of a number of the Royalist MPs who currently make up the majority in the House. Royalist sources have confidently stated that there will be no defections, as the party's MPs "understand their duty to Queen and House".

This is a direct threat to our democracy. The bluebloods think we are just cattle, who they can rule as they see fit. 'Swords into Ploughshares' should fail or we will have CIVIL WAR!

Great, rumors of Rheinland turtles in Nottingham, and these blokes are busy discussing whether they should vote together on using non-plastic straws to sip their tea, while Exeter and Nottingham are without proper defenses. Forget the SiB! Give us safety first!
