I'd very much love to see more people helping out instead of simply trying to rob/fine/blow up random newcomers. I'd also love people to be more accepting to other people's RP (be it in-game or on the forums) and not so "set in their ways". My experience so far has been a positive one, but I'm known as someone with much more patience / tolerance than the average person.

For such extremely small communities that exist for a long time, it's very hard to change anything without the risk of alienating a significant part of it. And that kind of thinking is precisely what leads to stagnation and "slow death over a long time", as the flow of new people in a community slows down to a trickle.

Frankly the only way to "save" Disco is to try and go "small, gradual changes, with every bigger patch" so that you preserve the existing playerbase and eventually attract newcomers.

The (over)abundance of rules is one of the things that scares newcomers away. I've been lurking for years and I can say things are a bit better than they used to be, but in my opinion, few of the recent changes were a step in the wrong direction, adding to, instead of compressing the ruleset.

If I had a say in how things should evolve I would go with gradually replacing some of the rules (those which are easily viewed as subjective, exploitable, and enabling for too much powers in too few hands) with sensible gameplay mechanics that can be implemented to be much more precise and make the experience more enjoyable for both the old hands and greenhorns, avoiding unnecessary drama.

Angels can of course help reach us that point, but are they a viable long term solution? Barring a few people who truly want to help others nobody wants to really sit in-game and wait for the help requests to come in. The whole community needs slowly change their attitudes towards newcomers, especially the ones who are also new to an RP environment.

You are using the angel tag in order for people to feel free to come to you for help. There is no "flashing", you are talking nonsense. You can help without being an angel, but you probably won't be asked for help if you are not an angel. New players should feel free to reach someone for help.

If you feel like the Angel tag is flashy then we can call it a different thing. The principle remains the same obviously and people would know exactly where to look for help.

Even if they were "flashing the tag" so what, who cares if they do. As long as they help newbies.

Spending time with some new friends who started out in the game, I can personally testify it's actually really difficult for people to pick the game up and it feels that throwing new players into the deep end - where as they can get pirated after doing 2 trade runs is pretty harsh - especially when there's no guidance to say what to do on how to deal with pirates or other mechanics.

Personally, it's a lot of reading, and I think visual learning is better than tonnes of text.

Gotta agree with Skorak and Karlotta here. Easiest way to help new players is to sit a freighter outside Eire and proactively talk to them. You don't need an Angel tag for that.

Considering our peak server load has doubled over the last month with both returning and brand new players contributing to that, now really is the time to be the change you want to see.

Corona is gonna go away, you know? Smile

But I do agree with this. If all those new people get some angels, and a message upon connecting that they can receive help from them, it would be a great change

About the whole "you can help without the tag" thing, I've already addressed it. I'm not going to repeat myself.

I often keep one of my ships there for this reason, quite often, Doc's [MFE] tagged yacht which is solely an RP/help platform.

Before people ask an Angel for help:
- they have to know that the Angels are there for that purpose. The "Angels" tag could just as well be an irp faction tag.
- there has to be an Angel online with nothing else to do than wait for people to ask

The same person could be irp hiring noobs to mine helium or scrap, helping them if they need it, without using an oorp tag that doesnt really provide information and keeps him from doing something to benefit himself and others while waiting.

Please, PLEASE actually read what I'm saying before posting your thoughts about it.

When the angels were a thing, when you connect to the server, there was a message telling you that the angels are here to help, and that they can be asked for help anytime.
