Very much this thing. I was pushing for it but staff has ignored it over and over again till I got fed up on them allowing this game to be held back by retarded and archaic ways by people who cling to the past rather than look towards the future.

Staff have historically very much taken a hands-off approach to House laws because they've always been written by player factions. The current system of changes being submitted to staff is a form of middle ground compromise on accountability.

If House gov'ts / OFs are happy to to have an obligation towards standardisation imposed on them, that's a discussion that can be had. In the meantime you are in a house gov't. Be the change you want to see.

He wants laws of factions that don't need laws in there gone.

I have my own 'laws' in my subforum as I don't need them for my ID. They're only rp not rules.

The problem is, there aren't people to explain those laws and help players progress through the game. It almost seems like people don't want new players, thinking they would ruin their elite gameplay.

I assure you, that is not the case.

For actual house laws, where IDs read "can uphold HOUSE laws", standartisation would be amazing. I would love nothing more than to see retarded BPA licensing gone for example. Why the heck do newbies need to be aware that some regular cargo like Light Arms, or Med-Stasis Bands are illegal.

If the laws and rules were properly written, presented, and accessible, new players wouldn't need other players to explain them. They would also be more inclined to stay if they aren't confronted with the convoluted mess that current rules and laws posts are. And they would be able to take the people who make themselves responsible of the rules and laws more seriously.

It may not be the case for everyone, but I assure you, there have been people like that in the upper echelons of disco for a long time. Some were very open about it.

I wouldn't know about that, but people that I hang out with are actively helping new players and are also always eager to help. Sure there are weird people like you mentioned, but most of us try our best to provide help.

- RP laws (no nudity or impersonating an officer etc) which will contain more laws and depth but are immersive.
- OORP (game mechanics: do not use X gun or Y ship in House space) which will contain less laws, are easier to learn and more newcomer friendly

I think these are poor definitions. What you call oorp there is also an irp law, and not really linked to game mechanics.

Its more a distinction between "minimalistic version" which only talks about illegal gear/factions and commodites, and a longer versions that involve actions and not only possession of certain things.

There should really be a middle ground. The best is to set a maximum number of words to be used in laws, together with quality control standards.

Also, some things work in the imagination but turn out very different when trying to actually implemented them.

You should try to do what you propose by editing the laws in this thread and posting the result there:
https://discoverygc.com/forums/showthrea...tid=178292

I predict that you will find good reasons to do it differently after you tried implementing it. Things mostly turn out like that.
