+1 Thats also a good one to post as a thread.

If you want to play single player you can just click "New Game" on the main menu.

I dont understand why this is such a controversial idea. Are people afraid of what exactly ? Having a more interesting experience? Uncertainty / unknown = thrill = fun.

This would promote interaction between players too, as you would need to hire somebody to scout ahead for you or an escort if you're afraid of being pirated / stopped.

As far as I know it's technically possible, so that shouldn't be an issue (except if the new dev team lacks code wizards).
Maybe not hiding but reducing the location accuracy would be enough (so it would only show region instead of the exact system).

And to people commenting about single player. You still have chat, and about a trillion other tools for coordinating with your team / faction / friend.

Make space big and scary again!

All it would achieve is to make it even harder to track people down and find them in the 30 seconds you have before they see you online, panic dock, and log off to avoid an interaction. Consequently causing a great deal of players not bother connecting to the server in the first place.

This sort of change mostly appeals to those that have no interest in actually playing the game and just want it to be a representation of their forum empire, or those that would rather be playing single player but want to build pobs.

When the system count is twice or more than the average player count, having the list catalyzes interaction by enabling players to actively seek it out. If you don't think players should be able to do that, and all encounters should be determined randomly, you are effectively forcing players to be NPCs.

brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

If that happens....then don't come to Forums or Faction feedback for complaining about Ganks.
either accept it full or not at all.

Thats got nothing to do with this imo, it would just prevent the use of Long Range Scanners that make it a bit too easy to track down ships...

If you think it's too easy to track players down by using the player list, you are exactly the kind of person who logs off whenever someone is in the same system as them.

This is a game about interacting, like most games are, not one about running away to prevent the enemy from interacting with you.

if you're not interested in taking part in the interaction, you can go play Conway's Game of Life.

Alright, I suppose you can look at it that way, but I'll just answer with a simple counterargument: has it ever been tried?

It seems to me exactly the opposite, a rational person will use all the tools available (barring cheating of course) to avoid interactions which could cause any inconvenience (or maybe it's just my opinion and I'm not actually a rational person).

This leads to having everything scripted the way he / she wants, which is actually a rather boring version of singleplayer where you are the writer / director / producer. Maybe a writer's mind enjoys such a static experience more, but every once in a while stepping out of your comfort zone is a good thing.

Now, don't get me wrong, maybe it wouldn't work at all, because as you say it would be hard too hard to track people, or maybe it would lead to I don't know... People actually asking other people for leads / directions / going undercover / stalling whoever they're hunting...

Maybe it's just that I haven't made any real enemies yet so I don't really have the fear of being hunted down like a fox...

Dude...... just play EVE online for 1 week. and you will understand.
there is only system player list....but you will cry more there, when you get Gank treatment 24/7.

On second thought I'm not Shure about hiding ship system location.
Long Range Sanners are also fun, like; Lot of RM gathering in Hamburg, let's go in and wipe them out(wishful thinking, lol).

Besides I shouldn't have reacted on this, now the thread has gone slightly off topic I guess...
