Quote:Freelancer is a vast universe, alive with the unrelenting activity and combined history of its players. Pursuing lives of adventure, warfare and prosperity, they share this existence in the longest running, free to play, space multiplayer game of all time.

Set thousands of years into the future, Freelancer takes place in a distance cluster of over 100 star systems known as the Sirius Sector. It is a rich and diverse universe, featuring densely populated havens of relative safety governed by five great Houses. Hostile systems where player alliances make the rules. Even regions of anomalous and unexplored space, that hold their own secrets.

There are hundreds of ships to fly in Freelancer. Everything from small nimble fighters and versatile mid-range gunboats, to large transports and colossal warships. Each has advantages and suited roles, but all are completely customizable, as you decide how to equip and arm them.

What you do in the Sirius Sector is entirely up to you. Freelancers’s immense sandbox gives you the opportunity to choose between multiple professions and activities. So be adventurous and explore new avenues of development for your character, as you can always change role and reinvent yourself if desired.

If you want to fight, combat in Freelancer can involve solo missions against non-player adversaries or small group skirmishes, while for some, it can even the thrill of fleeting up with fleets of fellow players and battling over disputed territory. If you want to explore, then the discovery of uncharted space and ancient regions that promise riches, danger and adventure await you. You can also engage in the business of prosperity, be it industry, mining or even interstellar piracy. The beauty of life in the Sirius Sector is that all of these activities and many more, can be done alone or with others.

Players in Freelancer can band together to form factions where they can enrich their experience, learn new elements of gameplay, and share their wealth and goals. Powerful factions compete for control and influence over large areas of space, waging wars and engaging in enormous events. Even taking down well-defended, player-built space stations.

In the spirit of exploration and mystery, new content and experiences are constantly introduced into the universe, with over a decade of free expansions leading to continual development and evolution of gameplay. While every action and decision has consequences for the universe and its thousands of players, the game remains very much about your unique adventures and story. A story that will forever be woven into the fabric of Freelancer.

This a first draft. I'm perfectly happy to just use it as is. Meph doesn't like the idea of ripping off another game's trailer and I understand why but writing this from scratch isn't of much interest to me. However, if anyone can submit a different version, I would love to see it.

I'd write a non-ripped-off one if disco were in a state in which I could recommend it with good conscience. But unfortunately new players are still confronted with convoluted and poorly written rules and laws, needlessly over-complicated game mechanics and restrictions, are forced to deal with unbridled sadists in leadership positions, are killed in 99% of pvp engagements they get into, and are ostracized and ganged up on by parts of the community for doing the main two new things the mod offers: flying caps and building bases. As long as those who could fix these things don't either fix them or stop keeping others from it, disco sadly doesn't really deserve to be advertised. Making more people try disco in its current state will likely just get more people who are disappointed and then never try it again.

Also, ripping off a similar game's trailer in such a blatant manner won't give a very good impression either.

I have to agree that using EVE's script almost verbatim isn't really an option. Not only is it ethically questionable, but it doesn't really suit Disco. The script makes it sound far, far more grandiose than it actually is, and I'm no fan of false advertisement. I could give writing a script a go over the weekend if no one more qualified decides to give it a shot in the mean time.

^ not to mention EVE is almost a complete polar opposite of Discovery in terms of gameplay mechanics, economy, player count, universe size... Almost the only thing they have in common is the people who like to write stories.

But yeah, I think we could write something original. Bring out the good points of Discovery (a tight knit community willing to RP, a chance to influence the universe around you, real time fleet battles, building, fighting, trading, exploring, getting your own content into the mod etc).

But most importantly, market is as a mod trying to expand Freelancer's legacy. Don't advertise things that are simply not happening in the current iteration of Discovery as you'll only make people disappointed.

There is a lot of nostalgia and old players to capitalize on (I present you GOG votes for games to be sold on the platform: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/freelancer)

Sadly the current state of the mod wouldn't be very appealing to a casual Freelancer fan, as it's still a bit too rigid in terms of expected player behavior (as proof I present you this post on Freelancer Reddit, where a player admits he's a bit intimidated by RP servers: https://www.reddit.com/r/freelancer/comm...s_and_mods)

Nice, good to see the YouTube algorithm is working in our favour. That's my video and this new trailer I'm proposing would be a lot better. Telling a story and basically a 101 as Toaster put it.
