Ummm, well, basically, I've had to format my computer due to stupidily accidently clicking a dodgt link online and contracting a virus which liked to make me computer crash.
The question is, will I lose my ship and it contents due to this? Or is it saved server side? Because there is no login as such, just a lil' worried I'm going to have to start from scratch, and although I don't have much at all, and what I do have isn't that special, it is mine, and what I call my home
So all I want to know is, are chars. stored server or client side? I have noticed Freelancer files in my documents, although I think that may just be settings....

actually they are not lost.
PM korrd with your names you lost, then make a name called hypozonic.Test he will be able to locate your old accounts and place them on new account, then all you do is back up that new account with Korrds FLAM software.
Well it's not that easy as BulldogNK forgot to mention that you need to restart the server for example which has to be timed etc.
Admin team is a bit short of staff now, but once we fix that, you can send requests like this to them during name changes (server has to be taken off-line for that as well).

Simple will take him 5 mins max to do this:P
Cheers
Shall I remind you yet again that doing it without restarting the server causes player files corruption (with the involved player files, and that is not recoverable), and most likely the server to crash?
Maybe you liked to do it while the server was up, cowboy style, risking server stability and the involved player files too, but that's not how things are done. Doing what you suggests can take up to 20 minutes, during which the server has to be shut down (where 18 of those 20 are taken by the new server Shutdown cycle and startup).
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )

Korrd,
Everytime I try to PM I get this:

I'd like to know whether I gave you a sufficient proof and when my characters are going to be restored. That is of course, if they are going to be restored.
