COMM ID: Charles Maret, Commandant
RECEIVER: Royal Enclave Command
CC: Bastien Savatier de Fontenoy, Contre-amiral
SUBJECT: Further Orders

Bonsoir, messieurs et madames.

This is Commandant Charles Maret aboard Battleship Berry, formerly of the Burgundian Royal Defense Flotilla and currently serving under Contre-admiral Savatier with Rocroi. Our ship is outdated, but undamaged and fully capable to serve.

I'm requesting a status report on Languedoc if possible, as well as any further orders as to what can be done on the front in Lorraine. I'm sure you're aware the Kusari Naval Forces have mobilized, and are currently challenging Epinal and her group. I'm not sure how it is down south, but I hear it's worse.
I believe we would also benefit from knowing if we are to treat the Kusari Naval Forces as invaders or as neutral entities for the time being. The situation has not escalated beyond Lorraine, or even Metz, but confirmation sooner rather than later may save lives and ships if we are to come under pressure .
I have linked this to Rear Admiral Savatier per his request, so as to keep him informed.

Merci pour votre temps.

Charles Maret

Commandant Maret,

Commandant Antonin de Lusignan of the RES Renaissance is speaking.

In a few words - the situation is grim. Battleship Pamiers and her battlegroup are involved in regular skirmishes with battlecruiser Akatsuki, battleship Nagasaki and their united battlegroups. The Confederal forces can not stand against such a massive battlegroup for long and most likely will fall if they will not pull back to Dauphine. It seems like we will need to interfere if the situation will keep being so bad for the Gallic side. Nevertheless, the High Command has not decided yet should we or not directly interfere. The Languedoc is currently a ceasefire zone with the Confederal forces and this is literally all progress we made in the system itself.

Regarding the Lorraine - has been decided you and the Rocroi remain discreet and undetected by both Kusari and Confederal forces as long as possible. Both battleships should remain in the Burgundy and do not leave it until further notice. The best tactic you can perform there is an observation of the situation and guerrilla strikes upon Kusari forces, their supplies in particular, without direct interference of heavy assets. Nothing should lead to Enclave so your men have to use civilian ships if you have any operational in your hands. If you do not have such assets available - use the service of our intermediaries in this sector. They should help you, if not for the name of the King then for shiny coins.

Nevertheless, you are free to work over spreading propaganda in the sector, making the local people more favourable toward us and our regime.

This is all for now. Keep safe.

SUBJECT: Operational Update

Bonsoir, messieurs et madames.

This is Commandant Charles Maret aboard Royal Warship Berry, providing a routine operational update for field records.

Under Rear Admiral Savatier, Rocroi, Berry and the remainder of her entourage departed Burgundy for Dauphine. While I was given a very loose option of remaining in Burgundy to oversee that front, in the unlikely event we are discovered Berry would not survive. As such, mobilization with Rear Admiral Savatier was without question, though it does appear to go over your orders as laid down before a month prior. Should the order have changed within that time, I was not aware, and will continue to follow the Rear Admiral's command in the field.

If command can relay any further orders to me, my men, or Berry in particular, we will await to receive. Otherwise, I will trust the Rear Admiral's judgement and experience.
Perhaps for once this ship may actually see proper combat.

Merci pour votre temps.

Bonjour, monsieur Maret.

Commandant, it seems you are afraid of unexpected end. I thought you were taught by life that our path may end at any moment. Despite how advanced a ship you do command, you are not protected from a random hit that may turn lethal for your ship and crew.

Your warship is not advanced at all: a Triumphant-class is a rare sign nowadays. I am wondering how such a ship was allowed to remain within the ranks of the Royal Navy for so long and suffered no general refit or upgrade to something modern.

As a captain of another, less ancient, but still a relic warship of the Charlemagne-class, I can only advise you to keep distance and use artillery at your best. Work as a secondary commanding ship, marking targets for others. Somehow Kusari and Confederal navy both prefer brutal close-range combat over artillery skirmishes.

Therefore, just follow Savatier's orders and participate in any combat he will order you to take place in. The victory shall be ours but we have to endure. Commandant Lusignan - out.
