Wow! My brand new log book, I cant believe Daddy got this for me. Im so happy! Well my name is Laura Calder, Im 14 years old and live on Planet Denver, and I have black hair and blue eyes. Daddy just bought me this brand new log book after my old one broke; it looks so much better and cleaner then the old one, and theres even a password key for it! No one can read it, only me!
So guess I should write about myself just so you know how I am, log book. My Daddy works for the Liberty Navy, hes one of the important people there, or at least thats what he says. Hes not home a lot because hes up in space a lot, but I got used to it over the years. Sometimes I get to go up in to space with him though! There was this one time where he even let me fly his ship on Father Daughter Day, though he made sure to hold on to the controls to so I wouldnt make a mistake.
Mommy works for Spa and Cruise! Shes one of the people that work on those huge Luxury Liners for all the rich and famous people on Planet Manhattan, sometimes shes even taken me along with her! She knows how much I love the stars, looking up in to space. Id go with her and get my own private room on board the ship, one right next to a window so I can watch all the ships pass by as we flew.
I also go to school! The kids at school arent very nice at school though, but I still have lots of friends! Or at least I think I do. Lots of the people there dont like how I look or dress, they call me girly because of how I look, or something like that. I tend to ignore them in the halls, theyre just mean.
And I have a pet too! A bird, or really its a raven. I absolutely love ravens. How dark they look, how they fly around the room when I let them out of their cage, how they try to speak to me in the mornings. I couldnt live without them.
Oww, my head… That one hurt, it hurt a lot. I’m sorry, Log Book, for stopping like that. I had another… Well, you can keep a secret right? You’re my log book! Of course you can. I had another vision, they’ve been happening to me for awhile now. At least I think they’re visions, they could be dreams too. I guess I’ll tell you what I mean.
I’ve been seeing things, or at least I think I am. I’d be awake and having fun with my raven, and then I’d get this little bit of pain in my head and fall to the ground. It’s like I would be sleeping, having a dream, but I didn’t want to sleep, it just happened. My dream is weird though; want to know what it is?
Well, it looks like one of Mommy’s Luxury Liners, and I’m on it. I can see Daddy flying by the window waving to me as he flew by the ship to make sure it would be safe, and then the ship would stop for some reason, and I’d hear a scream, then I would wake up with my head really hurting. Isn’t that weird?
Guess what!? Mommy said I could come to work with her for the weekend! She said they have this program where the Spa and Cruise workers can bring their families along as a thankyou to the workers. Isnt that great!
Mommy says theyll have a pool, games, music, everything! Were going to have a great time! I cant wait to go, only have to wait two more days for it. Daddys not going to be able to come though; hes going to be working. But Mommy said I could bring my raven with me if I wanted to, just as long as I kept him in his cage the workers on the Liner wouldnt mind me bringing him! Its going to be great!
Oh its quiet, they must have gone. Something horrible happened, my visi No, Ill explain first. Mommy and I went on the Liner a few hours ago, at least I think it was a few hours ago, I really dont know how long its been. Anyway, we went on to the Liner and it must have been the most beautiful liner I had ever seen. It looked so fancy and expensive, but we got to ride it for free.
I went to my room and we launched in to space while I was eating dinner. After I was done I was full up to my limits, I couldnt even think of eating another bite. I started to feel sick and Mommy helped me to my room so I could lay down. I feel asleep for an hour or two and then woke up; I could see the stars out my window. I awed and ran over as fast as I could, trying not to make myself sick from the food. The stars outside looked amazing, and there were Liberty Navy ships flying by the ship, I guess to protect it.
I then saw something in the distance, it was an Avenger, or at least thats what I think it was called. The ship started to fly closer to my window, I looked closer and it was Daddy waving at me from the window! He was smiling and waving to me from his window, and then my head started to hurt again. I could see Daddy moving away and flying back to me over and over again, the ship started to slow down, I could hear a scream, and then I opened my eyes again.
I was seeing it again; Daddy was moving away and flying back over to me, over and over again, pointing at me, looking scared. The Liner began to slow down, not by much, but it was. And then it came over to a full stop and I fell over on to the ground, and then the scream, the high pitched scream rang through the hall ways.
I looked out my window; I saw ships, ships I had never seen before when I would fly with Daddy. They were They were Shoot the Navy! Shooting them! I couldnt believe it, we were being attacked. And then the Liners alarm went off, red lights and loud sirens were everywhere to been seen, and then Mommy ran in to the room.
She started screaming that we were being attacked by Lane Hackers, whatever they were, but they were here to hurt us either way. Mommy told me to run for the escape pods, while she ran to get everyone else out of the Liner. I didnt want her to leave me, but she told me to run, and I did without asking her again.
The escape pods were close to my room luckily, I can as fast as I could and go inside one. The ship got hit again and the doors closed on the escape pod, they wouldnt open. People were banging on the doors wanting to get inside, but ran off to the one next to me instead. There was a timer at the top of my doors and it was counting down, I saw Mommy running by and she ran up to the doors trying to rip them open, but it was too late. The escape pod launched and I flew in to space.
I was scared, I started to cry, I couldnt hold it in anymore. I looked out my windows, the Navy ships were gone, all of them. There was nothing left but the scraps they flew around space. But the Hacker ships were still there, shooting at the Liner, but one came over to me. It came fast ,I thought I was about to die, but he didnt shoot me. Instead a bright light flew down from his ship and I was pulled inside. I hit my head, and I woke up here.
I dont know where I am Log Book, Im scared, I think Daddys dead, and I dont know what happened to Mommy and everyone else on the Liner. I want to go home, I want to leave. Im lost.
Its been two freaking years since what happened that day in Colorado, Ive changed since then. Now Im 16 years old, I lost that old log book back then, wish I had it now to at least keep track of whats been going on. Oh well, I guess. Instead Im just here talking in to this comm device I found, with no one to listen, might as well tell my story over again.
I was on what I guess was a Lane Hacker base after I was captured. They threw me in a cell and kept me there, luckily I got time to write that final entry in to my log book before I had it snatched away by the guard standing that came by the cell. I was alone, I had nothing left, they kept me there for almost a week giving me very little food and water, but I survived it.
Though it didnt seem many of the guards were very smart there, I was lucky with this one. He was skinny, and looked a little weak for his age. He came in to my cell to give me my dinner one afternoon; I made it look like as if I was sleeping before I jumped on top of him and banged his head against the wall, knocking him out cold.
I took a quick look out of my cell and the coast was clear. I ran for it, not caring if someone saw me, I just wanted to get away. I saw a sign on the walls directing me towards the docking bay, I thought that maybe I could fly away, leave in one of those ships the Lane Hackers were flying. But who was I kidding? I couldnt fly, but it was worth a shot. I ran, there werent any ships in the bay except for one. It was big, looking like it was there to carry something heavy, and the back of it was open. I took my chance, I ran over to it and jumped inside before anyone saw me, and hid behind one of the crates inside. I was just in time too as the doors behind the ship closed up. I started to wonder where the ship was going, but it didnt matter, I just wanted to leave, and to leave quickly.
I was on the transports for a long time, I couldnt count the hours though, there were too much. I could hear voices though, every now and again, and then the speaker in the cargobay as well. It first said Entering Shikoku system. Shikoku, I knew that name, it was in Kusari space, that was one of the things I learnt in school. I think I fell asleep after that, until I was woken up again by the sound of Entering New Tokyo system. New Tokyo? Thats Kusaris capital I thought to myself, I couldnt believe we were so far from home.
The ship started to slow, I could feel it. I heard something over the speaker again, a voice I had never heard before, an accent as well. I heard something about the Kusari Naval Forces, yelling something about that the Hackers were under arrest. I was saved I thought, freed.
The Navel forces guided the ship back down to a planet known as Planet New Tokyo, and opened up the cargo bay. I jumped out and breathed in the air, until they tackled me to the ground and threw me in handcuffs like they did to the other hackers. What did they think they were doing!? I was a kidnapped 14 year old girl that stowed away in a Hacker transport, yet they didnt believe me. They said they were going to arrest me, throw me in jail, and have me locked away from the rest of my life for being with the Hackers. I couldnt do that, I couldnt let them just have me, not when I still a chance.
One of the hackers began to get restless as we walked down the road to the station, he tried pushing and shoving, which gave me an idea. Only one guard was holding me, probably because he thought I was small and weak. He had another thing coming though, I kicked him in the shins and then between the legs as he cried in pain. And I ran, I ran far and as fast as I could to get away from the Naval Forces.
I couldnt believe I got away, I found myself in an abandoned ally, far from the station or where anyone could fine me. I needed to get the handcuffs off before I could keep walking, running, anything. There was a trashcan not to far in the distance, and there was something inside. They looked like scissors, or a knife, or something, but it didnt matter. I took them out and tried to position them behind my back to cut off the cuffs, it took me over ten tries but I got them almost killing my wrists.
I was free again; at least I thought I was. I took a cloak from the trashcan as well and ran off in to the streets of New Tokyo, wondering what it was I should do next.
Yep, two years after all that, since then Ive been homeless, a thief, a criminal. Ive been forced to steal food, water, anything to help me survive. I managed to pass a small shop sitting on a corner street; it had a necklace of a raven. I wanted it so badly, something to remind me of my beautiful raven I lost those two years ago on the Liner. I distracted the clerk and grabbed it, running again as fast I could.
What have I become? Thats something I think to myself everyday, and I dont have an answer. I couldnt dare go back home, there wouldnt be a chance Kusari would let Liberty come in to Kusari to take me home. I had to live on my own, here, for I dont know how long. Ive been forced to hide my face, not trying to get myself some attention from the Kusari people for looking nothing like them.
I was a Liberty girl lost in an unknown world, with nothing left to live for. What was I left to do? Ive been living and sleeping in alleyways, going days without eating because I couldnt manage to steal what I needed, my only friend being the necklace I wear. I was done, finis Ow my hea
I can see someone, a girl; shes standing on a street corner, cloaked, looking at me, just staring. The lights flash, and Im somewhere else, I can see another girl with orange lips, wearing an insignia on her uniform but was too long to read. She looked at the necklace of the raven I wore and smiled, and said the name over again in my ear. The lights flash again, I could see a ship, one Ive never seen before, it was red and weird looking, but I had a feeling that I wanted it, but I couldnt tell why. Everything went black.
I tried opening my eyes, but my head was pounding again, I kept them closed and laid my head back. I tried listening for where I was, I couldn’t tell. I could hear a beeping noise going on and off every second, I could hear the sound of people in a hall ways walking quickly, I could hear machines working away. Where was I? I tried opening my eyes again, then I knew where I was.
It was a hospital, or at least I think it was. I was in a room by myself lying in a bed with a white blanket on top of me. They had a heart meter attached to my arm, and my clothes gone, with only this robe they must have put on instead of my dirty clothes.
“Some fall you must have had.”
A man walked in to room and startled me; he was wearing a doctor’s uniform.
“From what I hear, they found you in the middle of the street with blood dripping from your nose. Some civilian found you as they walked by and called for us right after. Though it doesn’t look like you’re from around here, what’s your name?”
I didn’t speak, I couldn’t. I curled up in to my blankets and continued to stare.
“A quiet one. Well, you must be in shock from coming here; it seemed you must have been living on the streets. A Liberty girl, right? How would a Liberty girl manage to get all the way here?”
I tear rolled down my cheek as I thought back to the Hackers transport, how Kusari tried to arrest me for being on the transport. I didn’t know if they found my name, or knew who I was in the first place. This doctor sure didn’t, or he could just be lying. I needed to get out, I tried to get out of bed.
“Oh no you’re not going anywhere, you’re not well. And you haven’t told me your name yet.”
I could see my clothes at my end of the bed; they had been washed, my raven necklace sitting on top of them. I walked over to it slowly as the doctor moved up to the door so I couldn’t leave. I looked at it, just staring, and put it on and went back in to my bed. “A Raven? You like ravens?”
I nodded, “Yes”. “Ah! So you can speak. Well, stay here, I’m going to get you something to eat, alright?”
I couldn’t resist food, I nodded again. He came back no more then ten minutes later with a full tray of fruits and meats that I had never seen before, but it didn’t stop me. I ate them all so fast as if I hadn’t eaten for weeks, which I really hadn’t, or at least very little. The doctor was surprised by my appetite and went to get another tray while I finished my first one. He came back with something different, but it tasted so good, I ate until I felt like I was about to burst, and then he mentioned something to me.
“Oh, and just something to tell you, there’s someone people that wish to talk with you. They’re from the Kusari Naval Forces, they wish to have a word with you about how you got here.”
