I perfectly understand you, guys, let me guess, your idea is to make every single piece of the map to be used of the players, okay you have already tried events , let me suggest, what about you try to add the empty and not that playable zones something new, i have never been (lets say in Picardy, Okay Cortez needs some movement as well, what about my bases in Kansas then? *smiles* ), place the new ore there, send me with iridium to sell there? Even much better, place new systems, place new ores and stuff there , ships, place a voting systems, here we go, everything seems to be not that difficult? (i am not into the IT stuff - Is it impossible?) here's another idea... and no, i can easily rebuild, not that's the point, i have moved bases as i have wanted them, done!! i can play many different styles of game play, easily to find and decide what to be or not to be bases (you sit on the bases idea) i want to have bigger ship than Nephilim, stronger, new stuff to build in bases, equips, and to visit new systems? what will you say about new system Mormalon between Zurich and Picardy, would be House system or some more edge worlds? new zoners would fit there perfectly? what about the turn rate on the ships, let make equipment about the speed, let's make equipment about the cruise, lets make equipment about the turn rates of the ships (CAPs) lets make equipment to improve Guns effectivenes?? how about that?

Almost every player here could make a long list of ideas what could be implemented to the game (some of the ideas you mention were even considered in the past). Thing is - it is not as easy as you may think. Devteam is dealing with 17 years old game (it was released when George W. Bush was US president and invasion to Iraq started, Linkin Park just released their second album and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl went to the cinemas, basically a history stuff), which was never meant to be modded or played as a massive multiplayer online game, so its code is very hard to work with and on top of that original source code is not even available for modders. So what they have to do often is simply work with trial and error procedure and sometimes it turns out that by adding one feature, you break another one.

Apart from that, adding anything for PvP needs balance which is hard to do already. Not to mention - you may not know as you seem to be on the server only for like year or so, but a massive amount of stuff was actually added in the recent years already, be it new or remodelled ships, guns, game environment stuff and many others. The game looks way different than it used to let´s say five years back. Not to mention how it looked like nine years back when I started to play. Hell, we did not even have mineable ores originally, mining factions were flying around and just roleplayed they mine.

Regarding new systems, I will just quote what I wrote you previously
(09-09-2020, 06:54 PM)Lumik Wrote: Disco tried to went the way of adding more and more systems...and it turned out it is a wrong way. The player base is naturally getting smaller over time (after all, despite all the effort, I don´t know any gaming community revolving around the game as old as Freelancer which would be growing) so if it´s spread in more and more systems, player interactions are harder to get. More content is not always better. And same applies to adding more and more mining ores for example. Spreading players too much makes more harm than good.

Simply said, you can´t just keep adding new stuff forever, you also have to adjust the existing environment and that includes changes, despite it is almost always unpleasant for someone. There is no online game where you can take everything as granted and excluded from changes, apart from other reasons because sometimes only time reveals that it is not working as it was supposed to. Also, the game which is not changing and adjusting eventually feels dead and boring. I remember the time when the community was waiting for the 4.86 release which took a long time and I remember how many people complained about no development of the game (what is sort of funny considering many veteran players call this era as the golden age of Disco these days).

Yes, Lumik i am agreed with the most of what you say, i am playing FL from the date of its release, so yes changes , but not killing the time and efforts and motivation of the players, yes changes, lets vote, yes let everyone know that there is a test on something "guys it's a test, do whatever you like we will change it'' just another example: we have something that works fine we have putted efforts to make it and to fix and clean bugs and errors , at the end it's working good, and then we have to change it and put efforts again on the same thing? and yes adding stuff not means flooding with useless things, i have never said it's easy...
i am sure you understand what i am saying, at this point my motivation is gone as i will do something ingame and i will ''wait to be changed or gone''? this patches do not just move and replace one or two things,
how about "welcome to the Discovery Freelancer Testing Server'? in that case i will agreed with everything! i am just simply saying , do not kill players motivation do not kill their efforts and do not make their time wasted, everything else is okay.

Honestly, maybe you should consider what is your actual goal of playing this game. Because the way it works, it suits best for casual roleplaying in-game and on forums and arcade PvP. PvP activity can be still affected by game changes in a major way, but there is some space to adapt or simply go play with different ship class. And if you have most fun from encounters with people and creating a story of your character(s), most of the game changes won´t affect you in a major way (outside of big retcons, however you can still react by changing your character´s life story), actually can sometimes even contribute. If you have most fun from building sandcastles, then Disco is unfortunately not a good game for you. You must not be too invested in them here because they are too fragile and affected by way to many things which may change. Be it game changes, but also storyline development, faction diplomacy changes and the list goes on.

Basically, Disco is not a good game for achieving any "great goals" (which can be achieved, but it requires a lot of effort, time, luck and other aspects including ability to cope with changes). It works best when the path is the goal, so to say.

I offer 40.5M!

Back to the topic. Mate... you just made a way too deep dive into Discovery stuff.
I do agree, you have strong points here- many changes in disco were done mindlessly. (I miss you, Omega-11 & Omicron Alpha-Eta-Theta-Gamma cluster Q_Q).
And harmed the game greatly.
Still, I can't say, that Discovery is a dead stuff, as some action is still happens, there is still something worth logging it.
I mean, take a break, several weeks, then came back just for chill. Try some other aspects of the game. I believe, it still has something, that you might find interesting.

Watch this space. For now enjoy Alpha-Xi-Gamma with 6 min fly time.
