Dear devs!
I didn´t know this but yesterday I was asked by a player on the server, why Baffin now is a dead end system...
I myself am not very active on the forums and spend my time with disco mostly on the server since some time. And although I am not often flying around in Baffin, if not for the sake of supplying Brunswick, most of my ships are still harbouring there, and I am flying for the TAZ only.

I know, that our faction isn´t that big at the moment, to say the obvious but we are alive and we still play. We would be happy, if new members (or some long time players) would like to join our faction. Maybe, we aren´t that attractive like some more action-orientated factions but even without new players we do our best to provide nice and reasonable RP, and having fun online.

Please, don´t cut out Baffin! To me this looks like the first step in deleting our beloved system cause of we became a minor threat in Sirius... But I am here since such a long time, and I am mostly flying my first ship on the server, and I am "living and dying" with this faction. I know, that this may not sound enough, especially if someone isn´t writing a lot but only flying and talking on the server. But hey, we try our best to keep things going, and Baffin is well known as an open and friendly system, that is worth being visited, even if people use it as a shortcut only.

Again: Please don´t cut us out, please reopen the JHs to Newcastle and Coronado again. This is not only important for us, it´s also for the best of us all. I hope, that I can say, I speak in the interest of the most players here.

Baffin has been a bit of a tricky subject as parts of the system exist in memoriam of a player and we haven't exactly felt comfortable removing it with those things in mind. Dead-ending it was seen as a good solution to put it out the way and not make it obstruct any jump connections or an escape for traders in the Tau corridor.

I'm not sure about giving it more than one jump connection. Better question, if Baffin could only connect to one place, where would that be?

I don't really understand the purpose of Baffin, and I haven't even read your post, because tldr, sorry. But, anyway, dead end systems are cancer and shouldn't exist at all. So, there're two options: give Baffin another one connection (to Tau-31, fex) or remove the system. A-and both options are much better than what we have now, imo.

thanks for your prompt answer!

Indeed, Baffin is based of ideas of our beloved founder Malaclypse 666, but it also is a living system, that people often use (or better said: used) to reach the Taus without flying through Bretonia (it even has some nice roleplay options for K´Hara and other nomads, as we consider them to be Erisians, or so called: of Erisian origin). All of this never was of any problem for the Bretonians, and also it never causes problems lorewise. It is simply a nice system for the most, and for us it´s our home and something, that reminds us on Malaclypse and other members, who vanished or passed away.

Like Save My Soul wrote, there shoudn´t be any dead end systems in this mod, and Baffin never was a system, that we claimed as forbidden space but the opposite is true: Baffin was always open and should stay open. It doesn´t harm anything, it´s a part of the lore, and we few TAZzies still try to keep it alive.

Maybe that is not the easiest job, after we lost so many of our popes, but in the end Baffin is a place to remember some of the friendliest and RP-orientated players of this mod, at least for us, who still keep the secrets and try to talk about our believes. And we are online, we fly and try to be helpful, especially for newer players. And we are only online for RP, we are no trading faction.

So please think about a reopening! Baffin doesn´t hurt anyone, it´s not out of roleplay, and it is part of the big history of this server, It´s even a system, that can provide gameplay options for others, who are not interacting with TAZ related things, as it makes Coronado and Newcastle more interesting.

Wouldn't a simple solution be to just connect it to both Coronado and Tau-31? Essentially the way it was before but while keeping the new connection between Coronado and Tau-31. Thus making Baffin just a longer detour but at least giving it two connections instead of dead-ending.

Despite Baffin being added years ago, I find the system pretty. The stations could use touch to become fancier but with keeping their original structure, but since the system seems to be a memorial, I'm not sure if it's a good idea to touch anything

What was wrong with it being a connection between Coronado and the Taus? It seems like change for the sake of change. Baffin was a nice change of pace, a resting spot where you could take a breather in peace while smuggling. It's one of the few systems where people actually care about the rules a faction put in place around it. Yea it's nice having a faster connection from Liberty since it's been deemed that Magellan-Leeds is too dangerous to keep as a full connection, but why retire Baffin to do so? It's not like the Nado-Tau corridor in Baffin was a long haul or anything

Whoever is saying it's a memorial system is a load of bollocks. It isn't. It's just rhetoric to use as a pity sake to use as an excuse for whatever reason they want. We've had a few users who are dead, but we don't ruin gameplay just because someone is dead. They only cut Baffin out to keep it shorter, but Baffin was pretty short in terms of Coro>T31

If people want memorials, they can be added to conn instead.

I absolutely love it, if even for the whacky Hippie RP. Very unique system for out-of this world experience when you read the infocards etc!

Why not keep it as an experiment to add weird phenomenae like the Slow Zone in Delta etc. And actual system you go to to have a whacky old time of Amulets, Goddess Geode madness and weird things. Go nuts devs I say!


As to connectons - you could have some whacky freighter and lower only connections to far away places for Zoner explorers, or even uncharteds - powered by Scrubbies like the mycelial fungi network in Star Trek Discovery.

Or even JHs that spit you in random places Smile
