Are you annoyed because you can't shoot people for using Auxo engines you made when other factions fly them? Is this what this is about mostly? That is the 2 times I've seen someone try to gain lines - you
TBH It is kind of understandable when you actually made them for yourself and your faction. You want the exclusivity for the work put in - but this is not the norm afaik, most engines are not developed by their own faction players but for the mod with contribution of various people?
I miss the days where you bought a ship and it was what it was.
Recently I logged back in. Spent money I horded on new guns. Logged off and haven't played again... Maybe there is a point to grinding out to make your ship more personal

People can honestly RP whatever they want as long as it is within the scope of the rules.
I can RP owning Planet New Tokyo and there is nothing to actually stop me from doing so. People will call me a lolwut and its a pretty stupid things to do, but not against the rules.
Whether something is canon or not is something else entirely.
Just let people RP their engines. I will certainly keep doing so. I have a piracy line on my ID that lets me demand credits. There is no rule telling me in what situations to use that.
You can RP about the engines you mount all you like, but can't enforce RP consequences against anyone else because of theirs.
We had a situation where nomads demanded a cargo drop. Their ID doesn't have the lines in. But it does have a kill line. Admin consensus was that Nomads demanding cargo is not sanctionable as the alternative is a worse thing - death.
So if someone has a kill line - they absolutely can kill you and quote engines they can kill you anyways with generic lines and no reason.
If they have a pirate line - they absolutely can fine you and quote engines, they can pirate you anyways with generic lines and no reason.
What people can't do anymore is use FR4 or laws to punish you because of engines if they aren't using other lines.
EDIT: this is my assumption, admins can clarify, but the Nomad kinda similar precedent makes me assume this is the case.
My assumption is that half of disco has the logical apparatus and reading comprehension of a domestic hamster injected with a litre of third grade cognac, but in my case it seems the assumption is right.
The post in admin green says:
Quote:For the foreseeable future Engines and Thrusters are to be treated as purely cosmetic ie. ooRP.
This does not mean "engines exist iRP but you cannot enforce roleplay consequences," because if it meant that, it would be written like that. It literally means they don't exist. They are invisible for your character in the same way that a ship flying a Recruit ID is. There's fucking nothing there, and a character that mentions it iRP is schizophrenic or metagaming.
Now whether the decision is reasonable or not is beside the point, there is still time to change it. I think it would be good to keep engines iRP, but that's not what the post says.
Idiotic change that is appeasing the very niche layer of the current playerbase. Sometimes, people need to just live with the fact that they can't have a certain engine - instead, they decided to cross out other people roleplay on the roleplay server just because some mentally challenged goons want to fly other factions colors ooRPly. Admins should stop being petty and just tell us that we are not roleplay server anymore - we're "light rp pvp 24/7". Either that or whoever made this change should stop being admin - it's hurting the experience on this server.
"Forseeable future."
Hey, ever heard of something being the case "for the time being" and not "permanent".
Shouldn't have dropped out this declaration perhaps but eh yeah, it's not like it'll stay like this forever.
Right now it is blurry simply due to the implication of "faction owned" thrusters and engines which manifested more and more over the past years.
Either it's straight out removing their faction status (rendering them fully ooRP forever, not just the forseeable future) or give alternatives which are purely generic and for cosmetic purposes only BEFORE declaring the faction engines iRP.
People like cosmetics and virtually everyone has a ship with changed engines, some making even sense, some less so iRP. Still wouldn't want to launch your casual FL snub tomorrow and have 75% over a cosmetic item with no broader scale alternative next to blackmarket + generic house engines, right?
It would be nice to see more cosmetic assets being produced rather than the five pages of literal tantrums born from the fact that children might actually have to share their toys during playtime, all because there aren't enough to go around. It's almost like everyday this community, and even my fellow developers find new and utterly stupendous ways to disappoint me as well crush my spirit, motivation and faith in the project I'm trying to work on.
