This report is detailing the subject matter regarding the Libertonian Super Gates found in the Virginia and Omicron Nu systems. The contents include both public announcements[p], direct findings[d], and speculations or rumour[r]. Various details shall be labeled as such for ease of understanding citations.
Overview
The Libertonian Supergate was originally designed by Ageira with some form of assistance from DSE (Deep Space Engineering) as PROJECT COLD LAKE[p]. Ageira has a record of constructing such gates with massive backlashes, see the Texas Incident and the Alberta-Poole Gate situation. After the fault with the Alberta-Poole supergates, it is unknown what happened with original gates[p]. Reports state the current supergates were constructed in Alaska however it is possible for them to be reused from Cold Lake[r].
Currently, two supergates rest in the Virginia system and the Omicron Nu system, connected[p]. The DSE vessel Oregon Surveyor reportedly discovered the Omicron Nu system by the planetary system and stars. Initial surveys report deposits of H-Fuel within planet Midway with other trace unnatural materials. Planet Marshall contains readings of nickel and iron[p]. Reports state additional minerals or resources exist within the system however what they are have not been officially confirmed by the Libertonians.
A secondary report was released stating unknown contacts have engaged with LSF (Liberty Security Force) patrols in the Omicron Nu system. The unknown assailants are noted to be using archaic liberty navy ships, origins and functionality unknown. These unknown contacts swarm the "northern" portion of the system as well as the central and eastern, denoting around the central star and the portion opposite of the nebula outcrop[p].
Resources & Politics
The Virginia Supergate is situated at the end of a restricted trade lane past Battleship Minneapolis, acting as a checkpoint. The gate itself is defended by a sizeable naval station[d]. Virginia itself was given groundwork to be a defensible system during the Liberty-Rheinland war with frequent patrols and high security. Naval and Security Force vessels can be found here in all classes[d]. Virginia itself lacks in resources, initial scans and what public reporting exists reinforcing this[p].
Omicron Nu is reportedly rich in H-Fuel and general metals found on either planet, Midway or Marshall[p]. Due to the nature of the star and a hot field of asteroids surrounding it, one can interpolate the system is younger with possible fresh resources to be found. The colony reports have shown true to their struggling towards these unknown contacts with a high number of wrecks and debris, increasing as one travels "north"[d]. Junkers have taken notice and are using this opportunity to salvage military-grade materials from the various wreckages[d].
The system of Omicron Nu houses five major groups with some form of vested interest in the system. The first are the Libertonians in the form of the Liberty Navy and Liberty Security Force, mainly situated around the Supergate towards the "south" end of the system. The next would be the unknown contacts using older vessels, situated towards the "north", around planet Marshall. Less organized, a number of junkers and zoners frequent the northern end of the system searching for scrap or occasionally striking out at unfortunate passerbys. Lastly, with only trace accountings, are the Order[d]. Only finding loose patrols, it is believed such are only scouting missions[r].
Additional Details
Omicron Nu's dwarf star is frequented by parties generally found in the Omicrons, a method to find a jumphole into the Omicron Minor system which circles the dwarf[d]. From here, access to the center of the Edge Nebula and the Omicrons as a whole is more readily available. While strained, this does give Liberty a clear route into the Omicrons, possibly allowing for expansion into that sector[r].
Prior, Core vessels were using the Omicron Minor -> Omicron Nu -> Virginia route to transport materials from the Omicrons into colonial space. Such caused conflict with Liberty during a short timespan before calming[d].
An uknown disease is causing issues for the Libertonian exploration into the system. A quarantine is in effect, with little knowledge of the effects. The cause of the infection is xeno-based in nature, with Cryer stating they are in preliminary stages for medications[p].
Conclusion
The Supergates are Liberty's key into expansion towards the Omicrons and the rare resources hidden within the Edge Nebula. The gates themselves are heavily guarded and patrolled by naval and security forces. While the Virginia side is heavily controlled by the Libertonians, the Omicron Nu side remains a hostile frontier with many unknowns. Omicron Nu appears to be resource rich pending further scans.
