Planet Curacao

8:17 a.m.

Planet Curacao. It is impeccable, beautiful, alluring to many tourists, among whom are often wealthy people. Like Freeports, this boulder of water is the crossroads of many destinies and views: once entire negotiations were held in the orbit of this planet, well now people of even the middle class can see rich people who decided to relax from the daily routine that brings them their riches.

Such probabilities are low, of course, but Helena didn't come for the sights and certainly not for the relaxation: she came for the fates of the Bretonian refugees, whose evacuation is not long in coming. Braus Jr. was chosen as diplomatic ambassador on behalf of the Veracruz battle group to negotiate with the 46th Liberty Navy Fleet to ensure that Liberty's forces, at least the fleet itself, would not be aggressive toward the liners.

Of course, Helena did not expect to persuade the entire fleet not to touch the liners. But she was confident that she would now be able to influence events to set off a chain of new, more significant ones. Two armed guards were not to retreat from her one step and protect her in case of danger. Now all that was left to wait for was an ambassador from the 46th Fleet.

A meeting with the Enemy

Planet Curacao, a place that Kemp-Smith was not overly familar with, though had flown in it's vicinity many times in the past. Moored to her port, the Anchorage, his Flagship. A hangar bay door opens and a grizzly departs making its way to the surface and lands. The Admiral departs with company. They make their way over to the Insurgency Ambassador and sizing up the two guards assigned to her.

"So, you must be Braus, right? I'm glad to see you brought a security element. I hope you don't mind that I brought my own."

The Admiral maintains eye contact for a moment and awaits her response.

Helena cast a glance at the nailed-up guest and his guards. Not that she was ready to fight right there, but obviously they wouldn't send the Admiral just to capture "another terrorist criminal," which is what Braus was regarded as in the Fleet.

"Yes, that's me," - She answered, - "Come closer to the table, this room looks more welcoming than the corridor you're in with your guards now."

With all due care and courtesy, both sides sat opposite each other at the same table. The window to Helena's right offered a view of the ocean of the planet Curacao, where one could see not space yachts, but simple yachts. Although, several space yachts have just come out of orbit and started landing on the planet: it looks like summer has begun in Los Angeles.

"For all the animosity between our groups - yet Veracruz battlegroup is made up of those who respect Liberty's power structures and do not put you as barbarians who simply must be destroyed. My point is, don't think of me as a terrorist: I am a soldier just like you, following my orders.

Now to the point. Some time ago, the planet Leeds was burned down by Royalist forces. Before that, there was a mass evacuation of Breton refugees, one of whose destinations was the planet Veracruz in our system. The people who appeared out of nowhere put us in a stalemate: no one thought of forcibly evicting them so as not to destroy the reputation of the movement, while their prolonged presence on the planet caused problems with resources and food. Just so you understand: the resources that go into providing them could have gone into feeding the indigenous population of the planet, which came long before the events on planet Leeds.

Our commander ensured that we were given full carte blanche to evacuate the Bretonian refugees from our home planet to Yuma and Erie. Our arrangement should result in the Republic of Liberty supporting us in this mission without attempting to intercept the refugee ships. This truce will apply only to the evacuation ships: you will not touch our escort ships, and we will not touch yours unless you try to interfere with the convoys. The conditions are simple enough, and do not put you in a stalemate."

Duty above all else

The Admiral sat opposite the Insurgency Officer. He quickly tended to his sharp, pressed uniform to smooth out some out of place fabric. Takes a moment and responds.

"Miss Braus, for brevity's sake I will attempt to keep this as short and as sweet as possible. On our initial communication, if you rightly remember, we had arranged to begin initial negotiations on the evacuation and logistical side of said evacuees. To which I have since learned from several reports from both the Navy and Liberty Security Force, that you have already begun. Seems rather brazen to me to have already begun something that you were selected to negotiate for."

Kemp-Smith looked displeased with the Lieutenant and was looking upon her in a stern manner.

So, as you have already begun transportation of the evacuees, do allow me to retort. The former refugees of Leeds, frankly, are not of my concern. I've no doubt in my mind that you, or the Insurgency, have been in contact with the Bretonian Armed Forces and I'm not sure what arrangement, if any, has been made on that front. Though, that said, that is their concern as subjects of their Kingdom. If you end up shipping them to Yuma, then so be it. However, I am duly tasked and bound by Liberty Law to protect Liberty and her interests, and I will do so with everything I have at my disposal.

Liberty will absolutely not, under any circumstances, accept any refugees out of Vespucci. Any ships hailing from Vespucci will be stopped, their crew will be detained and questioned and the civilians onboard will go through a lengthy wait until the afore mentioned procedures are complete. Any refusal to cooperate with Liberty Navy will be met with grave circumstances. Consider this your first and final warning.

There is a reason why we find ourselves at two sides of a table, Lieutenant. I'd advise checking up on your history as you continue to prove that the Insurgency cannot ever be trusted with your conniving ways.

You really should have waited, but ultimately, you've only your superiors to blame for the lack of foresight. This negotiation is over and we are done here."

The Admiral stands and four of his security detail step forward to his flank.

"If you've any final remarks, then now would be a good time. Otherwise, you may return to what ever vessel you travelled here with."
