He took a gulp of his coffee as she spoke, eventually just answering politely and maintaining his current posture, though it was broken up by him occasionally adjusting his position for the sake of comfort. "Because I want to get to know Virginia Belle. And usually when you want to get to know somebody, visiting their family with them is a good way to do it. But with what you've just told me, it's obviously not possible and probably a bad idea." It didn't seem like he found this to be a particularly significant thing, he just wanted to know more about her, as he'd already stated. The fact it wouldn't be possible didn't seem to disappoint him either, he just took the refusal at face value and considered it a fairly logical basis for why it wouldn't work.

Virginia grinned in amusement, "That's a nice theory, Morreti, but my mother is capable of telling anyone what I was like as a toddler... including things I'd consider personal.". She was probably referring to the common 'crime' of all proud parents who like to go back to the years when their daughters or sons were innocent and naive children and like to share their experiences with any pleasant visitor, easily forgetting that their children are actually grown up and sitting on the couch across from them.
Virginia took a light sip from her cup and tapped her fingernails on the kitchen counter top, "My mother looks a lot like me in appearance as well - similar face, brown eyes, a few inches shorter and looks about twice my age. If people think of me as a twenty-something, you might guess her to be in her forties even though she's about to turn sixty."
With his elbows serving as support, he leaned forward to further exaggerate the pleading expression his face which was obviously playful. "Oh, but that's exactly what I was looking forward to. I want to hear all about what you were like when you were barely a foot off the ground, see all those embarrassing pictures from when you hardly had any teeth and hear about all the things you're interested in." After saying all that he couldn't keep a straight face anymore, shaking his head and chuckling briefly.
"On a genuine note, I won't insist. I do really want to know more about you and for that to go both ways but not if it comes at the cost of making you seriously uncomfortable." His expression softened when saying that, remaining leaned forward on his elbows but tilting his head as if to inspect her face from a different angle. There was still a healthy amount of distance between them, but this was as close as he'd gotten for a greater span of time instead of just for a few seconds. From where she was seated and at this distance, it was more than clear that he appreciated her features but it seemed like the majority of his focus went to the area around her eyes. While the option was open for her to reconsider and actually permit him to come with her to meet her mother, he didn't seem to be focused on that anymore.
