I guess roughly 90% of you remember the Discovery website that showed who was online, in what ship and system.

A great source for rounding up a gank-squad with correct fleet composition. A great tool for metagaming as you guys remember.

I personally think that while it was handy to see if your pals were online, I do not miss it. It was abused too easily and too much. But an anonymous poll in retrospect is in order I think.

Flying under radar.

Personally, I'd like it back.

With a few cutbacks. Like you said, I also found it a quick and easy way to see who of my friends are online.

Just have it with the ship name and system. Nothing else. Much easier that flicking back and forth to the game.

A list with only the names and the system would be nice.

Otherwise it was and will be abused.

I can't remember how often we went on a hunt and as soon we were about 2 systems close, the "Departing: Player XY-Z" "New Player: Player XY.Z" messages started to pop up.

I agree with you guys that a list with system, char name would be sufficient. Just like the chat window in-game.

It would help those who are trying to connect during peak hours to choose a correct account before logging in and seeing your faction guys logging out and wasting 5-10 minutes trying to get back in.

I wish I could change the poll to include this option.

Flying under radar.

I found the online players list, complete with ship type, to be very useful on occasion and I have often missed it in more recent days. I can imagine that it was abused, but I don't believe that removing resources with legitimate uses is the right way to prevent the illegitimate uses.

A few nights ago I was organizing an impromptu event and was in need of a Mover. The ALG player faction was unavailable, so I had to find an independent player in-game. I messaged a few people that might have had Movers, based on their names and locations, but didn't get lucky. Two hours later --after the event was over -- I found out that there had, in fact, been two Movers roaming around during the event and one of those players said he would have loved to participate. Had the online-player list been still around, that player might have had a more enjoyable evening and the event might have been more fun over-all.

There have also been cases, quite often to be fair, when I am looking for someone with a certain ship or ship class for any of a dozen reasons, though never for any malicious reason or for any purpose that could possibly harm gameplay.

Someone will undoubtedly think that the potential for abuse is graver than the potential for improvement of the community and server, and I suppose this is where the major point of disagreement would be. If there is a significant risk that people will abuse information, the problem does not lie with the information but with something much more fundamental. This issue of trust and maturity is one that strongly influences every other aspect of the community and will not go away as a result of restrictions and limitations. Restrictions and limitations never nurture trust and it is not possible to force maturity or decency. If you want to fix a problem like that, you need to look deeper than the gates you can close.

ill make it short.. its a very useful tool, to see if your friends around.. which of your factions are on..

I talked to cannon over a month ago about this i think.. he did say it will be up once more.. but i never bugged him about it since..

I think the Online Listing and the Ranking Sites should be up and running again

I kinda liked the list. sure people could metagame it. but that came in handy on occasions. for old skool bounty hunting, I needed to know what my target was flying, so I could adjust my ship accordingly. not that he was in a gb and I in a manta. or I come with a gs and he`s in a Bloodhound.

and to organise in-game "events" and skirmishes it was alos handy. was easy to see what kind of taskfore would be a balanced force to take on the enemy fleet.

Do you know what I -really- miss? 'Friend list'. Ingame one. No need to have player list somewhere on website me thinks.
