Discovery's second Story jam is now underway! The theme for the event is "Perseverance". Bring your creative minds alive and let your thoughts run free as you compete for some nice and hefty prizes. Don't forget you may interpret the theme as you wish as long as it's Discovery related. Please don't forget to read the rules of the event located on the first thread and most importantly have fun. We're all looking forward to reading your pieces of work. When you are ready to post use the template below and post in this thread.

Once the submissions come to a close this thread will be turned into a poll so that the community can vote on their top two favourite stories who will receive the rewards for the community vote. You will have 4 days to vote but this may change depending on the amount of entries we have. You'll be notified of any changes. Winners of the Judges vote will be announced when the community vote comes to a close.

Seven Days

A brief summary about your story:

The INS Repulse got defeated and is stuck in the Barrier. The ship crashed into ice rocks and is barely holding together, while radiation sickness, lack of supplies, demoralisation and no hope for rescue grind the crew down one by one. Is anyone going to have a happy ending here?

How does your story fit in with the theme?:

Perseverance is the struggle for survival itself. Can the crew persevere? Yes, or no? Apart from that, the theme coincidentally is the same word one of my old ships used to have as name. Cheap plug.

A brief summary about your story:

Local Android experiences schizophrenia, resolves to reconnect a very dysfunctional family. (This cannot possibly backfire)

How does your story fit in with the theme?:

Perseverance, or as I like to call it, "Hard Coping", is the psychological tool to get things done no matter what. Not only does our protagonist persevere through her own mind, she makes the discovery that what she desires is a reason to persevere, and gains a new reason to persevere. Also the whole post is in bright white so YOU have to persevere when you read it >:)

Perseverance wins

A brief summary about your story:

The former squadron commander tells a friend about the training of his pilots. What difficulties did he face and what was his mistake.

How does your story fit in with the theme?:

Perseverance without passion is nothing more than hard work, and perseverance with passion encourages people to move forward. The commander did not understand until the last moment that nothing could be achieved by perseverance alone. He himself had a passion, but he did not instill it in his subordinates.

Defying her blood: A Navy hopeful's oddysey

A brief summary about your story:

Born on Pittsburgh Xeno Hideout to Xeno parents, a girl tries to defy her blood and join the First Armada. She betrays her family only to be rejected by West Point and get imprisoned on Erie amidst the Zoner tensions. She perseveres, builds a wobbly ship over weeks and when Erie tensions subside moves to assist the Navy in Kansas and Vespucci to prove her worth to the Navy and defy her heritage, which she uses to her advantage.

How does your story fit in with the theme?:

She is born to the wrong environment, gets constantly knocked down and told "no" by people and destiny, but she perseveres against all odds.

The name of the ship symbolizes the determination of a group of scientists.

The Traffic on Sprague is Awful

A brief summary about your story:

Herman and Thomas are BMM employees who just want to get to work. Sprague's not the most pleasant place at the best of times, and frontier justice, failing infrastructure and terrorist plots only complicate matters further.

How does your story fit in with the theme?:

The pair really do have to persevere to make it through their commute. Poor Herman is also having to persevere through Bretonia's entirely irrational systems of measurement.
