No one considered that if the Barge gets nerfed then it's likely due to the economy and currency rework. The barge should've never made a come-back specially considering how broken and half-baked is, it's ridiculous that these ships drop absolutely nothing when blown up and that they're immune to novas, specially considering they are supposed to be literal piñatas for pirates.
Also people demanding a full refund for a nerf are delusional, the ship isn't going away (albeit if it did, nothing of actual value would be lost objectively speaking, at least right now), just nerfed. At much they deserve a partial refund of it, unless it's proven that the economy got buffed enough that Barges somehow are more profitable for trade than regular transports.

YES or NO
If yes, then what changes?
The developer, who at least once upon a time was "working" on economy and may still be working on it, and is widely infamous for his lack of integrity and handling of social affairs, is selling his barge just days before a patch (presumably lol) drops is a clear sign of either insider information or being a crayon eater. After Haste's conversation with Xenon and others in Discord, I sold my barge quickly. After the lend-lease battlecruiser fumble, it will be very difficult to project confidence in a community especially if they won't at least provide a comment to your question.

It is delusional because developer staff are staying mum on barges (which tells me something is cooking). Imagine you bought a new car for a goodly amount of money. A patch is released to the CPU of the car which prevents it from having the same fuel efficiency and speed, 2 of the things you decided was worth buying that car for. Wouldn't you want a refund too? To your point, even partial refunds would be acceptable. None has been offered, not even feedback to threads such as this.
It ain't about what you are capable of, it's about what you're willing to do.

Caveat emptor.
People in Disco really do seem entitled to everything. This mod hasn't had any kind of economy reset for over 15 years, everyone has enough money. This shouldn't bother you.
I'm not sure people know what caveat emptor even means. Sure, if I buy the barge and I am upset at the current ridiculous cruise engine charge speed or the very slow top speed of the cruise engine, than that's on me (caveat emptor). Caveat emptor does not imply to changes made to an already purchased product where previously defined parameters were acceptable to make the purchase.

I grinded for a month for mine. I don't have the time to play this for hours and hours on end so no, I did not have that kind of money. So this thing that I worked for and spent a lot of time to get is most likely being changed to a degree that is unknown to me, yes that bothers me as it should. I have the right to voice my opinions and concerns on a forum (since we are a big fan of latin words and phrases, forum is a latin derivative meaning a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged). This shouldn't bother you.

As of right now the only active change in the test build of the mod is that we have applied a bumping "band-aid" that massively reduces the effects of player-to-player and npc-to-player collisions. The Barge, by virtue of being the slowest and (one of the) largest ship in the mod is one of the biggest beneficiaries of this change.
We have code ready to prevent select ships from taking tradelanes. This code is primarily intended to be used for the Barge. However, as of right now we haven't fully decided on what kind of compensation buff (if any) could be applied to offset this change. We want the Barge to be a side-grade of 5k transports with a niche or two it might be particularly good at, but given its enormous cargo space simply buffing its cruise speed or charge time will very quickly make it print hundreds of millions of credits running remote, non-lane-bound routes. Since we're aiming to keep the Barge viable, but trying to prevent it from remaining the game's most effective credit printer (which it was never intended to be, regardless of its high cost), we have to make sure whatever changes we make are well-balanced and make the ship feel worthwhile to own. It is very likely that we'll postpone Barge-specific changes to a hotfix after 5.0 itself so that we have enough time to fine-tune things.
I would like to briefly touch on the cost aspect of the Barge: in Discovery, credits do not buy you power. A Cruiser can take on a Battleship several times more expensive than itself, and win. A handful of bombers costing less than a hundred million credits total can take out a fleet of capital ships worth billions. The Barge is not an exception to this rule. It is not meant to be a straight upgrade.
I think the primary purpose of the Barge in the game was to aid base construction and add RP elements.
While it can be used for trading, relying entirely on it for that undermines its intended use.
Therefore, it's understandable that the developers would consider nerfing it to maintain balance and ensure that it doesn't become overpowered.
Ultimately, it's up to the players to not abuse game mechanics and use the Barge as intended, thus avoiding this kind of situation.
So please stop poking the Team for trying to fix player abuse on this ship.
(and no im not part of it)
Everyone is upset about some stuff on the upcoming update but truth be told that we dont have a real patch in years...
Id say give the Team a chance... and stop abusing the toys they give us hehe

Thank you for responding.
Disabling trade lanes is a way of limiting the barges capabilities and one that I've actually pondered myself. It would even make lore sense to say that the trade lanes cannot handle the mass of the barge, even empty. The only problem with that change would be for people like me (who did not use it as a credit printer) who used it for base supply. It's a very useful supplier. A couple of items that can be used as a balancing agent to no trade lanes:
1. No clip. Some systems and routes are impossible to make because of environmental factors (rocks etc). Make the barge no clip in that no ships can hit it and the barge can fly through any environmental obstacle.
2. Increase cruise speed and decrease charge time. Not by a lot, but to some degree.
I really wish that something was said awhile ago - transparency is an incredible way of rooting out rumors and calming nerves. My only other feedback would be that I wish the dev team reached out to the people that are the subject matter experts on the specific subject (in this case, the barge). This will involve the community and make us feel part of the process.

So those concerns were right, the barges were going to be nerfed, hence the panic to get rid,
one even sold for 15b by a player knowing about the nerf & now the nerf is being postponed
to try and save face of those dealers. Well done boys.

well ... that is what it looks like! i mean .. for several days people were talking about it in public, and no one responded and gave an answer! and now we can see why! the barge it is the most expensive transport cost by cargo unit, and it is the worst ship to fly, it is a nightmare on the trade lanes, saw many stuck and players having a real hard time to just docking, it is even almost impossible to fly in certain systems ... i remember that barge on that event that was taking stuff to gran canaria, that took more than one hour to pass by Omega 41 ... and even so players wouldn't mind to pay that much and go thru all the pain, because we all know that the bigger the transport, more expensive it is and more difficult to fly it is ... and now it will get nerf badly and they "might" compensate, they don't even know if they are going to do it. wonder what it will come next ...!!
