When I was creating these I did my best not to flood the screen with unnecessary brightness because it can give me a nasty headache too. I offset the fuse for the effects to spawn in so it wasn't as jarring to look at from first person and from another perspective.

If really necessary, you can download the ale editor here so you can either disable the effect entirely or change the colours to be darker so you don't get disturbed as much. (Though I wonder how enabling tradelane flashes arent unsettling you or explosions in the game? They're more strobey)

If you want to take matters into your hand regarding fx in the future:

Download the ale editor here (don't think skotty uploaded 4.2 so ill reupload it)

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/aw10afp3e...mmhrv&dl=0

Open ale editor.

Select Textures drop down > Load Textures.

Navigate to DATA/FX folder in your install. Shift select all of the .txm files and load them in.

Goto File, Open, goto DATA/FX/MISC, and open jump_gate_splash_small (or medium, or large)

Double click here to open the effect library, the area highlighted in red.

Open each every emitter node (stuff that ends in .emt) and set the "Life Span" to 0 seconds - the area highlighted in orange. It will stop spawning particles entirely. Ctrl + S to save. You can freely edit ale (fx) files without fear of anticheat.

So customise the game to your own hearts content fx wise.

These effects are deliberately made so they are a visual indicator of someone who just entered via jumpgate/hole or jump drive.

I don't want to sound insensitive, but people prone to light-induced seizures probably shouldn't play a flashy laser lightshow sci-fi game in the first place.

  1. Just because you personally have a hard time believing something, doesn't mean it's not true.
  2. You only need to do a little search on the forum about how to disable the Bloom Effect to learn that photosensitive people do actually play this game.
  3. Photosensitive players learn early on how to deal with the BLINDING WHITE WOOSH TUNNEL.
  4. You don't sound insensitive, you are insensitive.
  5. Players are under no obligation to play this game in a "flashy laser lightshow" manner.

Customizability is a nice thing to have.

For now you'll need to use the means I provided above. We can't code in things right away. Mod packs may be a thing in the future with the new launcher MAYBE.

People can also just copy paste the old trade lane effect then rename that copy to the new gallic lane effect name, then overwrite. Effects aren't seen by the anti-cheat as it's just visuals, so people can edit them to their hearts content as long as they don't edit ini files.

  1. To disable the effect that happens after we arrive in a new system, what file do I need to change?
  2. Can the BLINDING WHITE WOOSH TUNNEL also be disabled or changed by replacing a file?

Sometimes the effect is just cool. But sometimes the entire screen is filled with white. This flash of light which contrasts so much with the dark background of almost all systems is what hurts the eyes. Since the thing I'm talking about is an unintended side effect, it technically classifies as a bug.

Thank you for all the info you provided and for all your work on this game.

EDIT: your solution worked perfectly! Problem solved. Thank you, Kauket!!

What resolution do you play on btw? I try playtesting but I don't have a 1080 screen or 4k. Tried to go as high as 1600 on widescreen but didn't get any particularly bad flashing issues
