Honestly, keep it, trying to 2v1/3v1 two no IFF snubs in a snub or a gunboat is kind of a giant pain without them having crosshairs. I'm all for that particular funny exploit not being a thing anymore. Wouldn't hate it not being a thing on friendlies anymore though, I can't remember a situation where I've had green-on-green personally.

If you can't see White circle or Green circle when shooting a crosshair to distinguish Neutral / Friendly / Enemy, you have bigger issues that those little crosshairs on NPCs.
I've just dealt with a PVP encounter with a guy with no IFF (he was neutral to me). Pain in my arse if not for the crosshair. Have to dance all over the keyboard and manually select him out of all the targets, instead of pressing R.
Keep the targets. Those are helpful for new players as well as old players who don't PVP and just like to PVE.

The issue is moreso when crosshairs overlap and get in the way of what you're actually shooting at, most prevalent with the allied crosshairs.

Again: The system is easy and has been the same since the game launched:
- If crosshair circle is White > you hit neutral
- If crosshair circle is Green > you hit friendly
- If crosshair circle is Red > you hit enemy
There's no "but" "or" "if". The game calculates where and who you HIT, not where or who you shoot, and the crosshair circle shows.
If you shoot at 4k (mortar eh) and a friendly snub comes in the way by the time the projectile hits, c'est la vie. Its his fault for not paying attention to the fight. These occasions are rare, sometimes fatal but not that often. I'd average 1/50.
If they overlap under 2k, you can see and you should know who you're shooting at.
Else the system is simple, efficient and effective, and helpful for everyone.

yeah now use any rapid fire weapon (prims, shards, secondaries) in a fleet battle with a bunch of friendly players and NPCs around and tell me it doesnt pose a massive hazard with your turrets locking on to other interfering hazards.
i want to know what stimulants youre on to be able to differentiate thirty different red X's on your screen. im paying attention to the enemy ship and the ships around me while trying to avoid their oncoming fire, the last ten years of cap combat ive trained myself to track the crosshair with my peripheral vision and occasional snap glances. now ill have 2-4x the crosshairs zipping around. im assuming you just fly in a straight line and tunnel vision on the enemy crosshair when you play caps? must be hard for you.
one or two stray IFF-less players in a fight is CONSIDERABLY less annoying than 10+ stray crosshairs.
if a neutral IFF player attacking someone was an issue we wouldve removed the Freelancer IFF years ago or made them unable to collect bounties. but now that one of his friends said shooting a neutral fighter was annoying haste put on a change thats overall annoying annoying

That's great, until you have situations like this where I have to stop shooting my actual target for a couple seconds in case one of my allies' crosshairs overlaps my target's crosshair and I accidentally completely delete them with gunboat impacts in about .2 of a second. That is something that could be considered problematic, and why I would personally not mind if the targeting reticule for green didn't show up unless clicked upon, similar to pre-patch. Neutral should stay, though.
As you said, the game is calculating who you hit. Don't you think that becomes a problem if your ally dares to dodge a shot and, through no fault of either party, you end up accidentally killing them because their targeting reticule overlapped for a second?
