Defenders will be able to dock at every station along the route, meaning you have an instant respawn and no further than 1 trade lane to get back to your objective.

Attackers have to swap ID on death and generally have a lengthy cruise from the closest base to catch up.

Defenders getting ganged up on honestly isn't so important when the are zero consequences to death and you can bury the enemy under a tide of corpses.

I'm not seeing one important point being brought up here, so I'm gonna bring it up - can you log as attacker, die, and then instead of switching to another attacker switch to defender and vice versa?

Yes. You can mix and match to your heart's delight. Just remember that you can only use IDs with ZoI along the route.
