Hi everyone

This is a quick PSA to set out staff's view on the use of AI generated content. This is a deeply controversial issue online - especially in roleplay communities like this one, where the use of generated content is often seen as low effort, and demeaning of other player's contributions.

We're adding an extra item to the server rules to address this:

(02-04-2007, 02:31 PM)Discovery Community Forum and Server Rules Wrote: 1.1.3 - Generating roleplay or posts through a prompt to AI writing tools is not allowed. These tools can be used to proof-read or edit a post you have written, but not to create roleplay wholesale. AI generated images must not be distracting or low quality, i.e. containing warped text, obviously incorrect human biology, or prominent generation artifacts.

We appreciate that many people are not confident in their English skills, and use AI to proofread or edit their posts. This rule does not impact that kind of use. The roleplay in those situations is still written by you, and continues to have your distinctive style and voice as an author.

What is not acceptable is outlining what you want in a prompt and having an AI generate the text for you. It is often very obvious when this has been done, as most large language models write in a very distinctive style and have particular "tells".

In cases where the origin of text is ambiguous, staff will err towards the benefit of the doubt. Despite that, clearly AI generated text will be removed going forward. Applications for SRPs or other rewards that rely on generated text will be refused immediately.

The use of AI generated images is acceptable, within reason. This means the images should not be distracting or immersion breaking. Examples of this include images that include heavily distorted nonsense text or pictures of humans with incorrect physiology (too many hands/fingers, etc). If it looks obviously wrong, do not use it.

If you have any questions about this policy, please ask in this thread.

Thank you for clarifying the server's stance on AI-generated content; however, I believe this restriction may be overly restrictive and stifle creativity and efficiency within our community. AI tools can serve as valuable aids for writers, helping to overcome language barriers and enhance storytelling without compromising personal voice or effort. Banning AI-generated text entirely might discourage innovation and limit participation for those who rely on such tools to contribute meaningfully. I respectfully urge the staff to reconsider this policy, perhaps by allowing controlled and transparent use of AI assistance, rather than an outright ban that could hinder genuine engagement and growth.

Thank you for your well-articulated and evidently optimized contribution to the discussion. Your message presents a compelling perspective on the potential benefits of AI-assisted writing, highlighting themes of inclusivity, efficiency, and creative enhancement — all delivered in a tone of carefully calibrated neutrality that mirrors the very tools under debate.

However, the core concern remains unchanged: roleplay in this community is intended to be a shared creative exercise, driven by individual voice, style, and intention — not by automated synthesis. While the idea of “controlled and transparent” AI use may sound appealing in theory, in practice it opens the door to content that lacks the nuance, spontaneity, and genuine engagement that define organic collaboration.

We recognize the value of assistance tools for proofreading and editing, and the current policy already permits such use. But generating content wholesale through prompts, however eloquent the result may appear, risks reducing creative participation to prompt engineering rather than actual writing. That’s the line we’re drawing.

We appreciate your input — truly — and encourage further discussion. Just preferably written by you.

Thank lord. Official Factions using ChatGPT to generate roleplay (you know who you are) was getting too much.

Thank you for your thoughtful response and for acknowledging the nuances involved in AI-assisted writing. I respect the community's commitment to preserving authentic, individual voice in roleplay, which is indeed vital to the shared creative experience. However, I believe that AI tools, when used responsibly and transparently, can serve as valuable aids rather than replacements for genuine participation. They can help overcome writer's block, refine ideas, or assist those with language barriers, ultimately fostering more inclusive and vibrant storytelling. Restricting AI entirely may unintentionally stifle creativity and discourage innovation, especially as technology evolves to support ethical and transparent use. I advocate for clear guidelines that distinguish between helpful assistance and over-reliance, ensuring that AI remains a tool that enhances, rather than diminishes, personal expression.

We noticed, don't worry.

As an extra note - we've decided not to retroactively moderate posts that aren't a pending player request for the sake of fairness, as an official ruling wasn't made until now.

I will say only one thing, fiiiiiiinally. I might not RP on the forums often but seeing those texts always demotivates me to even start again. Why put hours of efforts into something if others don't even waste a thought about it and just ask a bloody machine.

A good rule, though I would point out that there are AI detectors available that can detect AI-generated text. Personally, a trained person should notice the difference between an authentic and AI-generated text, namely via word choice and syntactic patterns.

Finally this neuro-generated garbage is clamped down on. This forum has had enough Bretonians in medieval plate armor wielding the strangest of swords.
