Yes, player operated carriers has been discussed before. And there are problems. Usually with the whole docking and the spawning correct?

I am asking, is this solution possible?

When you dock, anywhere that tells whatever file server side, that you respawn there correct?

What if the player controlled ones automatically shift that parameter to the previous respawn point?

Example:
Player A docks at Manhattan
Player docks with Player B carrier.
Player B carrier is destroyed.
Player A is destroyed before docking anywhere else.
Player A respawns at Manhattan.

Is this type of measure possible at all?

EDIT: Another possibility is, can the player carriers not count as a spawn point? But then again, will that mean you will not undock from it?

The mechanics aren't thing being debated since this stuff works fine in other mods. It's the fact that other mods use it and/or the testing time required to implement that is killing player dockable carriers.

It IS possible.

IS for SURE.
Seen it done many times, was great fun.

The problem is the time it takes to implement, and the consequences of using that time unwisely.

ID rather it go to empty systems.

Besides, I think Carriers would create a wave of F1 issues.

hmm... I do not know what wolud happen if the carrier F1'ed while someone was inside him.

See, these are the exact reasons it does not get put in...

Too many what IF's.

It would just be the same as if the carrier died as if it f1'd. No biggie.

Should be simple to implement, really. Make a base that can only be accessed by docking with a player. When a player docks with the carrier, a value is set saying what player he docked with. When that player launches from the base, he is automatically warped to the player he docked with in the first place. If the player in the carrier dies, or F1's, any players being carried should be warped to the carrier's last position.

That seems to cover all the issues. Am I wrong?

Been done. Works on a few other servers. And really, if you priced it just right like the Dreadnoughts + a special license, the only people who would ever get one are the people who are dead serious about getting one. Let's say 1billion? Dreadnoughts are already like 700million. You'd figure a carrier would be worth the extra cost. I think it should have a little more armor and more weapons too. Anyways, that's just me.

What would really be the point? You arent allowed to dock during a fight to resupply as per server rules, so the only thing this would really do is allow one player to transport other players, which doesnt really help anyone.

I'll say it once again: The word 'Carrier' needs to be removed from this mod entirely, just rename the bloody things already.
