NEW DAWN MOVEMENT

WE THE PEOPLE OF THE NEW DAWN, DETERMINED

to hold dear the universal ideal of freedom from both tyranny and harm, and

to recognize that there exist barriers to this ideal in the form of existing systems and agents of oppression and suffering, and

to safeguard this ideal and facilitate its true expression in the Sirius Sector, and

to uphold the inherent equality and fraternity among sentient beings of all walks of life, and

to cooperate with each other to meet the challenges and struggles that would keep us from achieving this ideal of freedom, and

to establish the material conditions to facilitate the absolute expression of the ideal standard of life,

AND TO THESE ENDS

to unite as a single, voluntary collective in order to better advance the cause of freedom, and

to establish a society of individuals dedicated to laying the foundation for the ideal world, and

to create a model for the world to learn from and follow into a new age for sentient life, and

to employ any means necessary to destroy the systems and entities that lead to the excessive suffering of sentient beings,

HAVE RESOLVED TO COMBINE OUR EFFORTS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE AIMS.

Accordingly, our collective body of membership, all present at the drafting, framing, and ratifying of this charter at Andorra Haven in the Roussillon system, with good intent and expression of autonomy, have agreed to the terms laid forth by the present Charter of the New Dawn and do hereby establish an independent political, social, and economic organization to be known as the New Dawn Movement.

— preamble to the Charter of the New Dawn

WHO ARE THE NEW DAWN?

The New Dawn Movement is an organization that was founded in the year 829 in the wake of the Erie Refugee Crisis, by a group of individuals dissatisifed with the governance of the Houses and the various other political entities throughout Sirius. Wishing for a less structured and more overtly pro-social way of life, they founded a station in Roussillon called Andorra Haven, which they maintained for some time, attempting to reach a cooperative existence with as many of their neighbors as possible, from the IMG to the Gaians. This way of living did not last--Andorra Haven fell to ruin after approximately a year, due to the ongoing costs of its maintenance. Since then, the New Dawn has led a nomadic existence, migrating their civilian population of over half a thousand people to their carrier, the Voidstag II.

While formerly a nominally neutral group, the New Dawn now formally throws in its lot with the Zoner Militants with whom they have so much in common. Joining the fight on the side of the Militants, the time for pulling their punches has come to an end. Now, the Movement shifts into a fully revolutionary capacity, aiming for systemic change within Sirius. While their message and means may be radical, and many may feel that their values are idealistic, they commit themselves wholly to the cause. No nations, no borders. No gods, no masters. Solidarity forever.

The New Dawn welcomes members from all walks of life, no matter their house of origin or their previous affiliations. The New Dawn considers its movement a voluntary society--those who participate within it agree to abide by the rules of their charter, leaving their previous baggage at the door, and providing for others as they would provide for themselves and helping each other with whatever problems they may face. In exchange, members can expect to be treated with respect and dignity by their peers, with a voice in their democratic society, to be supported unconditionally until either the day that they depart, or the day that the New Dawn ceases to be.

Like many historical movements before it, the New Dawn draws upon the philosophy of communists, anarchists, and leftists. Anti-authoritarian and anti-stratification, members of the New Dawn believe that the only fair society is one in which no individual has unjust power over any other. To this end, their organization is structured laterally--different divisions like administration, defense, trade, and engineering are comprised of volunteers that provide their skills willingly, without any exchange of credits. Instead, they work because of the demands of their society: their ships and homes will go to ruin if nobody keeps them in good condition, and all of them will starve if no one grows food. Life support will fail without maintenance, and without anyone conducting internal affairs, tasks would never get done until it's too late.

To keep everyone in check and ensure that no one group or individual gains too much power, all members of the New Dawn are welcomed to a public forum known as the general assembly. This assembly is akin to a town hall, a meeting for all members where issues can be raised, and matters of importance are voted upon by all members of the movement. The speaker of the assembly is rotated regularly among all members of the New Dawn. Consequently, political participation is not only expected, but also encouraged: without a floor for debate and the capacity to evolve, the movement could never survive in a turbulent and violent sector.

Pilots of the New Dawn can be roughly divided into the categories of civilian and militia activity: those that wish to fly but may not have the capacity or willingness to take a life crew the logistical vessels that keep the New Dawn and their civilian families alive and healthy. Meanwhile, the militia pilots commit their efforts to the joint efforts of defense and revolution--matters that, to many members, are one and the same. Defending the civilians of the New Dawn protects the movement from harm and safeguards their future, and attacking their foes on their home soil deprives them of the tools that they may use to threaten the New Dawn--and the people of Sirius as a whole.

The New Dawn Movement believes that all people and beings in Sirius deserve an existence free of suffering--from farmers on Stuttgart to workers on Pittsburgh, from miners in Dublin to fishers on Junyo. They believe that through collective and direct action, they can make a meaningful difference to people's lives throughout Sirius. They believe that choosing to live in oppression is a far worse fate than to die fighting for liberty, and they will take every chance that they can get to ensure that the future that they live in is a brighter one than the present day, striving for the New Dawn.

TAGS, ID, AND IFF

Tag:ND)-
IFF:Militants
ID:Militant ID

Warship Tag:ND)-AMV-Shipname or ND)-Shipname
Logistics Vessel Tag:ND)-ALV-Shipname or ND)-Shipname
Unmanned Vehicle Tag:ND)-AUV-Shipname or ND)-Shipname

Faction members may fly any fighter, bomber, freighter, transport, or frigate they wish. Gunboats, as true warships, must be approved by the faction before being added, though they are permitted to be personal ships. Cruisers, Bustards, and other ships using capital weaponry within the faction are restricted only to shared vessels, given the weight of importance that a full-sized capital ship holds, and they will only be added to the faction as part of roleplaying storylines.

FACTION DIPLOMACY

ALLIED
Zoners
Even before the New Dawn officially began to label themselves as Militants, they aligned heavily with the ideals of Zoners. This sympathy has only deepened over time.
The Platform
Many members of the Platform cell were once members of the New Dawn, including the entirety of the Gloaming Flotilla. As a fellow group of anarchists and leftists, the New Dawn will always be open to collaboration with them.
The Independent Miners Guild
The IMG not only helped the New Dawn Movement with supplies and collaboration while they resided in Andorra Haven, but also bear many of the same tenets in their philosophy as the New Dawn does. The New Dawn would happily defend them against threats to their independence.

FRIENDLY
The Technocracy of Auxo
The New Dawn Movement maintains a mutual defense pact with the Technocracy--an arrangement that was formed back when they needed allies in Roussillon. Their mission of protecting knowledge for the sector is one that the movement approves of as a whole, despite their more clandestine dealings.
The Bundschuh
The Bundschuh movement as a whole rebels against the tyranny of an oppressive regime, and shares an ideology with the New Dawn. The New Dawn is always happy to support them.
The Molly Republic
Despite a lack of communication between the two groups, the New Dawn considers the cause of the Mollys to be just.
Bristol Constructions and Manufacturing
Among all corporations, Bristol has taken direct steps toward an equitable and just future for Erie. While their economic model may be at odds with the mission of the New Dawn, their intentions are sound, and they have shown their willingness to collaborate for a better future.
Independents and Freelancers
The causes of independents everywhere are core to the ideology of the New Dawn. The New Dawn believes in the self-determination of all people, including those that choose not to directly align with their cause. Protecting the rights of these people to do so is paramount, though individual relationships may vary.
ALG Waste Disposal
ALG is one of the few corporations that has consistently attempted to maintain standards of ethics and supported revolutionary causes across Sirius. For that, the New Dawn considers them among the best of all private corporations in Sirius--though the concept of private corporations is anathema to their goals.

NEUTRAL
Gaians
Interactions with the Gaians during the New Dawn's stay in Roussillon were cool, but overall amicable. The New Dawn pledged to keep their supply runs out of Edinburgh to keep attention away from Gaia, and used Gaian-inspired plant walls and life support ecosystems to sustain Andorra. While no formal relations exist, the general view of the Gaian movement is favorable.
Gammu Collective
The Gammu AI Collective has, in the eyes of the New Dawn, done nothing to merit distrust apart from simply being alien.
All Others
Those not listed on this reputation sheet are considered to be neutral to the New Dawn.
The Maquis
While the Maquis' revolutionary cause could be noble, in practice they made poor neighbors while the New Dawn resided in Roussillon, placing the lives of civilian families in danger.
The Coalition
Begrudgingly, the New Dawn refuses to stand against the Coalition. However, their authoritarian government and egregious crimes make this neutrality extremely tenuous.

UNFRIENDLY
Nomads
The New Dawn, unlike many human factions, believes that the Nomads have a similar right to life and self-determination as humans do, and do not engage them on sight. However, the fact remains that most nomads engage in indiscriminate violence against humanity. The official stance of the New Dawn is to live and let live--do not engage Nomads unless they attack first, and exercise due caution around them. Like dangerous wild animals, they rarely bite if you don't trespass in their territory or threaten them.
The Order
At their best, the Order are defenders of humanity--a commendable goal. However, the modern interpretation of their goals is twisted, creating an organization that believes it has the right to invade the privacy of all others in the pursuit of what the New Dawn perceives as a genocidal goal of extermination of all non-human life. This split attitude puts members of the New Dawn ill at ease, for fears that they might become another target for their goal of equity for all sentient beings.
Unlisted Corporations
Corporations are entities created in the pursuit of profit. They will, in their purest form, go to any lengths to create that profit, no matter the ethics of doing so. Such entities are inherently antithetical to a just existence.

HOSTILE
House Militaries, Police, and Intelligence
The Houses are, uniformly, industrial engines that sustain imperialistic ambitions of conquest and control. The New Dawn opposes them in all capacities.
The Liberty Navy
The Liberty Navy in particular continues a campaign of extermination and forced relocation against the Zoners of Pennsylvania that have lived there peacefully for generations, for no better reason than to exert their sovereignty over them. The New Dawn cannot allow this to continue.
Outcasts
Given a blank slate and a fresh start with Malta, the Outcasts chose to create a criminal empire founded upon a highly addictive drug to exert control over all of Sirius. With many cardamine-dependant individuals among the New Dawn, their hatred for Outcasts runs strong.
Gallic Royalists
While their paths are unlikely to intersect again, the Gallic Royalists have earned a special ire from the New Dawn for repeatedly antagonizing them and staging open assaults on them in Roussillon. This on top of their ambitions of restoring a royal family to Gallia makes the Royalists a sworn enemy of the New Dawn.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The New Dawn Movement is, first and foremost, a roleplaying faction. Members of the faction are expected to have a fully fleshed out character (or multiple such characters), and to prioritize storytelling over PvP wins and kills. Ganking is not only bad form, but it is also against the rules, and people who engage in such behavior (even outside of the New Dawn) have no place in our faction.

Members of the New Dawn Movement are expected to act with respect and courtesy to others in all OOC interactions, no matter how heated they may feel. Insults and personal attacks on members of the community are not acceptable by our members. Similarly, attempting to argue with others in bad faith is also strictly prohibited. The faction exists in its ideal form as a platform to educate others, and entering discourse purely for the sake of argument reflects poorly upon all of us.

Members of the New Dawn are expected to treat other community members with civility and compassion wherever possible. We aim for a cooperative and friendly roleplaying environment, even during adversarial roleplay. Allowing in-character tensions to bleed into out-of-character behavior, and vice versa, is unacceptable.

Members of the New Dawn that engage in bigotry of any kind will be removed. This includes, among other things: racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, religious discrimination, and classism.

Members of the New Dawn will not instigate community drama and will do their best to defuse tensions with others in an open and communicative form. Again: if you cannot engage amicably, simply don't engage.

All members of the New Dawn have the right to vote in faction decision-making. Any member of the faction may propose an issue for voting, and a vote will be held after a discussion period with the faction. All votes will be publicly visible to members of the New Dawn Discord server, though only members may contribute to voting and discussion.

The role of faction leadership within the New Dawn is to serve the faction by enabling the needs and wishes of its membership, and to communicate those needs and wishes to the community and to the staff of the Discovery roleplaying server. Faction leaders within the New Dawn are volunteers, and may be elected by majority consensus within the faction. A vote may be called to remove them at any time, and the faction leader is expected to gracefully resign if they are voted out. The faction leader holds no special privilege above other members, and is equally accountable to the faction's code of conduct, serving purely as a representative and administrator on behalf of the New Dawn.

The faction forum account is reserved for official communications on behalf of the faction, and must not be used to express the personal opinions of characters or players.

OUT OF CHARACTER

The New Dawn returns! Community members may recognize it from when it was a Freelancer base in Roussillon called Andorra Haven. Now, the faction intends to establish itself firmly on the Militant ID.

As a faction, the New Dawn is overtly meant to be an example of a group that follows leftist principles. While this won't appeal to all members of the community, we nevertheless wish to collaborate with all factions and individuals that we interact with on an OOC level, ensuring that interactions remain positive and that fair play remains in effect.

Internally, the faction doesn't have a formal leader. Decisions are made democratically and through roleplay, with the presence of a section on our Discord server specifically for democratic decision-making framed from an IC perspective. For the purposes of community interaction, however, the current leader of the New Dawn is its founder, Goddess Astra. Other founding members include Zephyranthes, Killgarrn.

We currently intend to try for officialdom as a Militant faction. As such, we're very much open to and encourage feedback for our faction. A dedicated recruitment thread shall be forthcoming.

We hope to see you all in space!

Das Platform but with a Militant ID? Well to be fair, this one was already a thing before The Platform, so I guess it's the other way around. That being said, why pick the Zoner Militant ID instead of the regular Zoner ID? Specially considering the fact that your CoC makes a clear statement that PvP is a secondary aspect over storytelling, and Militants are established as terrorist and pirate cells among the Zoners that seek vindication and revenge against those that bully fellow Zoners and their Freeports, something the New Dawn doesn't seem to care at first glance as they're not self-labeled as Zoners.

The second question is if you're sticking to be a criminal/unlawful aligned group why not become part of the Gloaming Flotilla instead? This faction and the Platform are very closely aligned in politics and goals (although the immediate goals are not stated), unless this was attempted and there were disagreements, if so then nevermind.

They just created tag. Just an hour ago I saw them transfer ships to their tag. Give them a month, at least.

Older group that's reviving itself from 2022, really. Most of their stuff has just been collecting dust.

We're still setting up shop again, but our current goals involve scouting for a base of operations, revitalizing our Bustard, and meeting with relevant parties to re-establish diplomacy. We'll also likely join in to actively oppose Liberty lawfuls in the area.

We're picking Militants for the same reason we didn't pick Zoners when we first made Andorra: we want the leeway to be able to actively oppose hostile factions. We're not interested in merging, as while we have similar ideologies, we have different areas of operation and modus operandi. Also: we do care about fighting those who oppose Zoners and their freeports, and the New Dawn's revolutionary actions are likely to bring them into conflict with house militaries, leading them to also be labeled as terrorists and/or pirates. So, in short: we chose the Militant ID because we're militants. Despite prioritizing storytelling, we're not opposed to PvP--we simply intend our PvP to be in service to our story, which is one of revolutionaries.

Sure, but I mean, what are your actual day to day objectives? If you want to log in and do stuff, what do you do? The objectives are very high minded / top level. I just wondered what that practically translates into?

I'm not sure what you're asking, exactly. We'll do what we always did, historically: log in and play our characters, with the added cherry on top of now having an ID that allows us to engage enemy targets within our ZoI.

Just as a small heads-up and also as response to your previous answer. Freelancers can engage anything through blanket bounties, which are now open to indies unlike back in your first days with this faction. And yes I know that giving it a mercenary approach may seem strange at first glance for a political group, but it gives you two things:

1. While you remain unofficial this approach gives you absolute freedom on picking diplomacy for your faction and means to shoot valid combat targets, and no locked-in Zone of Influence, this would also allow cooperating with other similar groups such as the Suntigers which are basically Xeno volunteers with Freelancer ID.

2. It rewards your members through meritocracy, as those that score kills can get paid, you could also post non-combat related bounties doing courier jobs, such delivering supplies to fellow freedom fighter groups.

I have no clue if this approach was discussed, but in case it wasn't then give it a thought.

Appreciate the heads-up, but we've always really wanted to be Zoners, and so as soon as the Militant ID came out we were immediately drawn to it.
