To: Hannes Klein From: Hauptmann Liese Hartung, Unioner Fleet Oversight Subject: Commission Proposal – Expeditionary Command
Guten Tag, Herr Klein,
We have reviewed the full navigational log of your recent deep Omega traversal, including your handling of hazardous anomalies, resource-thin sectors, and especially your composed approach to the Gammuian encounters.
Not many pilots keep a clear head out there.
Even fewer return with something worth reading.
Your conduct demonstrated the three qualities our exploration corps values most:
• Discipline under stress
• Accurate observational reporting
• The rare instinct for where the edge truly lies
Because of this, the Labour Oversight Committee has instructed me to extend a formal invitation.
We would like to offer you the commission and captaincy of a Corvo-class vessel under Unioner charter.
This is not a warship assignment.
The Corvo is—and will remain under your hand—a long-range stellar survey platform. We intend to expand our stellar cartography, anomaly mapping, and resource scouting efforts across the deeper Omega fringe.
You would operate with:
• Full navigational autonomy
• Priority docking rights at Pacifica & Hollenstadt
• Access to Unioner cartographic archives
• A science officer and two engineers assigned to your discretion
Your mission, should you accept it, would be straightforward:
Chart what others overlook. Observe what others fear. Return with knowledge.
If this offer interests you, reply with a time and location for a formal briefing. Pacifica or Freistadt are both acceptable; security escorts can be arranged upon request.
We have ships.
We need the right hands to take them farther than most dare.
Let me know if those hands might be yours.

You know, I think I saw the Corvo you are referring to. She's here at my shipyard right now!
I've already been inside and my team couldn't find anything wrong with her, so I thought it was strange that she was sitting in one of my bays. I never imagined that this was the reason!
I'll gladly take her, and I look forward to meeting the scientist and engineers, as long as they don't complain when I begin tinkering with the drive core, or something. After the eventful... events of our last few trips, and Riehl insisting my Dunlin is inadequate for skimming the coronas of stars, I look forward to seeing what a Corvo can do.
The cartographic archives though... How up to date are they? I have been plagued with constant breakdowns of the archive on the Keimbombe and it seems like any attempt to fix it in the field fails, so If this gives me a chance to park the Dunlin in one of my bays for a while, I'd love to take it.

To: Hannes Klein From: Hauptmann Liese Hartung, Unioner Expeditionary Command Subject: Re: Commission Accepted – Corvo-Class Assignment
Guten Tag, Herr Klein,
Then it seems the Corvo has a sense for where she belongs.
Yes — the vessel in your bay is the one. She was diverted there deliberately once your name was approved. Your inspection merely saved us the paperwork of pretending we needed to verify her condition.
Your willingness to take her is noted and appreciated. As for tinkering: you will find no objections from us. Corvos are meant to be understood, not merely flown. If you manage to coax better performance out of her drive core, our engineers will likely ask you how you did it rather than complain.
Riehl is correct about the Dunlin. She is a capable ship, but star-skimming and prolonged high-radiation work demand heavier tolerances. The Corvo’s shielding and thermal architecture were built with precisely that sort of abuse in mind.
Regarding the cartographic archives — they are current up to the last Unioner deep-Omega survey cycle, with redundancy backups mirrored through Pacifica. More importantly, they are stable. You will not be fighting corrupted nodes or half-dead indexing ghosts every time you try to pull a star chart. If you wish to berth the Dunlin and give her systems a proper overhaul, Pacifica’s bays are at your disposal for as long as this commission stands.
Your science officer and engineers are already en route and have been briefed on your working style. They know this is an expedition, not a classroom. You may find them more adaptable than you expect.
Once you are ready, signal us. We will register the Corvo under your command and release her flight clearance.
Take her out where the maps thin.
