RESEARCH DOSSIER • LOG ENTRY #001

Scientist Naomi Cromwell
Date 15.01.836 • 18:00
Type FIELD REPORT
Location ACV Titania - NAOTEC Lab
Clearance TOP SECRET - Naomi and Amy Cromwell

I. GENERAL OVERVIEW
A day ago the Titania went to Fischer. Near a comet we've found another rift that brought us to a different location in the Omega-97 system. A location that was illuminated in a strange, bright light probably coming from the anomalies. Among those anomalies we've spotted a wreck. It looked very similar to a Core Gunship. In it's cargo hold we've found a containment unit, containing one of these strange anomalies in a weakened and fluctuating state.

II. OBJECTIVES
  • Determine what these anomalies are and where they originate from
  • Find a way to contain these anomalies
  • Find a useful application for these anomalies

III. METHODOLOGY
Approach: Observation in a constant environment - Increase/Reduction of energy - Interaction with samples in a complete and contained vacuum
Controls: Constant vacuum - Light level - Noise level
Variables: Samples - Energy input - Variable energy types

IV. MATERIALS & SETUP
  • Large Containment Unit - Complete vacuum
  • Data logging device and permanent video recording
  • Cookies (Those are for me.)
  • Rock samples from the area
  • Samples of the derelict ship hull

V. OBSERVATIONS / RESULTS
Timestamp Observation Notes
T+01:00 Anomaly remained weakened and fluctuating No actions were taken - Observation only
T+02:00 Brightness increased - anomaly became more active - a low, song-like hum emitted from it Exposed to short bursts of Gamma-Rays
T+03:00 Brightness decreased - anomaly weakened Increase of electromagnetic containment - lead encasing cancelling energy exposure

VI. ANALYSIS
Interpretation: From first observation these anomalies seem rather strange. The exposure to gamma-rays has shown what I've assumed. The high radiation in the system might be the reason why they can thrive there. The fact that some of these anomalies attacked our ships suggests that they might have a defence mechanism.

Uncertainties: Why is the anomaly emitting a faint, song-like hum. It appears these anomalies might not be natural.

Risks / Concerns: Re-activating the anomaly might hold severe risks. The anomalies in Omega-97 and Fischer are extremely hazardous for humans and their ships.

VII. CONCLUSION & NEXT STEPS
  • First conclusion: These anomalies can emit a vast amount of energy, however, they seem to need energy themselves first and foremost. Robbing them of said energy and draining them seems to leave them weakened, almost starving. One might think these anomalies are actually alive.

  • Follow-up steps: Feeding of different types of energy and quiet observation in a contain environment.

{FOLLOW-UP • ENTRY #002}

Scientist Naomi Cromwell
Date 21.01.836 • 18:00
Location ACV Titania - NAOTEC Lab
Type PROGRESS UPDATE

I. NEXT STEPS EXECUTED
  • {Step 1} — Energy passively fed to the anomaly
  • {Step 2} — Keeping anomaly stable
  • {Step 3} — Draining of energy

II. RESULTS
Step Outcome Notes
1 Success Anomaly became more active. Readings indicate aggressive behaviour.
2 Partial Unable to stabilize without constant energy consumption. Readings indicate ability to convert matter into energy.
3 Success Anomaly weakened to the point of idling in a fluctuating state.

III. IMMEDIATE NEXT ACTIONS
  • Analysing the possibility of turning matter into energy for the anomaly.
  • Stabilizing the anomaly in an active state while keeping it contained.
  • Avoid direct contact with the anomaly. Highly dangerous.
