Admiral Solandros,
Hmm. Seems there may have been merit in your claim after all.
Sent some of our best out to Tohoku for a peruse, we weren't disappointed.
That technology doesn't look like it came from any human in Sirius. Looks like the same sort of tech that we dig up every once in a while.
We have a major problem here, Admiral. Gallia remains a threat to both Bretonia and Kusari, along with the Crayterian holdings in Tau 44, however I cannot sit back and let Kusari, to some degree, utilise alien technology so freely. We do not know what guides their drifting hand, or whom. Or what for that matter.
Our little reconnoitre also revealed several jump holes in the system, one to where I suppose your lot reside, and another to... well quite frankly, I've got no clue. Couldn't get a fix on where it led, and my lads, rightfully, didn't feel like dying on that particular day.
How long has your little disagreement with the Kusari Intelligence lot been going on for? We've seen the wreckage. I can only imagine how it begun. Ah, this is quite the pickle we've got ourselves into.
Some pondering on what we already thought we knew has suddenly found it's way onto my schedule.

Hail Admiral Fairfax,
I'm glad you found the excursion worthwhile. Your concerns are understandable.
Tohoku is indeed connected to what we consider part of the Order protectorate, the Omicron systems aren't exactly safe so any degree of protection goes a long way.
Regarding your question about the Kusari office of intelligence, careful Admiral, you might not want to ask questions you don't want answers to.
Suffice to say it started 36 years ago.
I have prepared a token of good faith and had it delivered to Sabah, I figure your men can bring it back with them when they deliver those supplies for the Crayter Republic. Perhaps once your staff finished examining it we can discuss how to continue from there?

Admiral Solandros,
That's the problem, I want all of the answers. About everything. However I'm not naive enough to believe I'll get them.
Not yet, at least.
What exactly was the catalyst that started your disagreement with them 36 years ago? I'm sure I can assume, but to hear it from the source would be best.
Our contractor delivering the supplies was surprised to find a return shipment. As was I, to receive a gift basket of this magnitude. Especially since the Crayterians seem very twitchy all of a sudden.
If my techs are right in their assessment, these are scanners to find trace hints of contact with Nomads? Like our own, but less... prone to false positives. I assume these actually work? Unlike our own.
So, how do we operate these things then? Are they for ships or purely stations?

An attempt to communicate
Hail Admiral Fairfax,
My apologies, I suppose Bretonia might have been fairly sheltered to what was happening behind the scenes at the time.
As you no doubt remember Rheinland turned particularly beligerent 36 years ago; crushing the Kusari Navy, operating in Liberty, operating in and threatening war against your House, even going so far as bombing planet Sprague in the Omega-3 system.
The Order refers to this time period as the first Nomad war, it was when our founder, Orillion, defected from the LSF when he found out his own supervisor had become infected by a Nomad. It was also when Rheinland was controlled by the Nomads. Not to imply that every high ranking Rheinlander was under Nomad control mind you, but all it takes is a few in key positions.
At any rate, don't you think it odd that Rheinland suddenly turned as aggressive as it did? With technology noone had seen before that turned out to be based on Alien technology related to the Nomads? Doesn't that sound somewhat similar?
And for that matter, isn't it a bit odd how easy Rheinland was able to take down Kusari's Navy back then? Almost too easy even, as if they knew exactly where to be and where to strike?
Rheinland has since been able to purge the infected from their government and are probably the most vigilant of the Houses for this threat after their experience. Kusari has not been as fortunate.
The devices you have received are scanners we utilize to scan our guests and personel upon entering an Order or allied installation, years of finetuning and use in the field has refined the process to a science. They have very limited range though, they will do you no good out in space.
Even if these talks go nowhere in the end and we eventually deteriorate back to hostile relations, the tighter security can be against the Nomads the better.
Consider them a gift.

Admiral Solandros,
Ah yes, I've read about the issues back then.
I was a green Lieutenant in the Armed Forces when that occurred. Before I knew the Intelligence Service existed even, before I realised the scale of the issues humanity faced. I remember there was uproar as Rheinland vessels were picked up in Cambridge. Times were simpler, knowing what I did then.
So, what you're saying is that Rheinland is proficient when it comes to ridding themselves of the Nomad menace? I may have been biased given my previous experience with them, as I did not expect to be reading this. Given my experience of having my officers pass information across my desk that a marked Rheinland Military transport was smuggling alien organisms through Leeds, New London and Cambridge, I was somewhat on the other side of the fence. However, given you have far more experience with them, and my experience was a one time affair, I'll defer to you.
I am understandably puzzled on what to do with the information you provided, and my officers recovered from Tohoku. It is very troubling. I'm sure you no doubt know about the closeness between Kusari and Bretonia following the onslaught with Gallia. Troubling.
While I won't pass on where suspicions came from, I can always claim that my concerns came from the leaked jump drive information that my techs have gone over. The influence that the Intelligence Service once held is somewhat lacking... Sometimes it feels as though I'm talking to myself. But no matter, we'll find a way.
Now, to more pressing matters. Since our last communication, we have had some of your operatives making their way through Bretonia, markings denoted they were 'EV', whatever that is. They were followed and allowed to pass by my officers. However... Seems my warnings of the LSF were well founded. Sensors picked up five LSF vessels, with LSF IFF's fully on display for the world to see, breach Leeds to hassle your lot. Sadly all my intelligence vessel could do was to warn then to leave the area, which they ignored. These vessels belonged to the Liberty Security Squadron, a known group hostile to Bretonian officials, I believe it was our very own CDI who had issues with them last time. I will do what I can to prevent this in future, but being this brazen, something is going on. Would you say there may be a thrall issue in the Liberty forces? Or is that me being too cautious?
I'd also like to say thank you for the most gracious gift, while it is a shame they don't work in space, I can understand there are too many variables to work effectively, they will be a fantastic tool in the fight against the alien menace that threatens us all. I feel rather rude, as I don't have anything so shiny to give you in return. Perhaps some information would be valuable?

Admiral Solandros has added me to this channel in preparation for a daunting endeavor. With the release of the Niyodo Files and the retrofitting of the battleships Somerset and Essex, the proliferation of Jump Drives is not an if, but a when. The inevitability
Jump Drives being used for surgical strikes, destroying any means of security and unfortunately creating a world of fear and paranoia, means steps must be taken. This is our first step. Unfortunately, so early into our endeavors to find common ground has found me in need of your help. And if it were easy, I would have saved my breath and your cortisol levels.
The Order is now requesting of you something we understand is difficult. It will be tantamount to Treason. But we do this with the promise it is for the good of humanity. Because if there is no promise of security, then there will only be war.
We need full readouts - gravimetric, spatial, energy, if it's a tactical, scientific, civilian, glancing, passerby blink and you'll miss it, cows still moving rare steak - I need it. I cannot get a reconnaissance vessel close enough without the full might of Bretonia smiting it from existence. Getting one into Leeds is already a daunting task I will not be undertaking at the current time. But you can.
I am noy askinh nor do I expect you to steal the plans. I don't expect technical readouts of the device itself. Hell, I don't even expect you, no offense, to be allowed onboard either vessel, much less close enough to see them drives.
But I need something. Signatures, how it distorts space, power fluctuations. We need this because, to be upfront, we are currently attempting to create a Drive Suppressor. Any House with unchecked power to drop a fleet anywhere in their foe’s backyard will not only have untold hold on the security of Sirius, but become the focal point of all Houses’ ire. The Houses cannot fall. Even Gallia cannot. The Nomads are a force too powerful for any one House to stand alone against, and the Gallic War played right into their hands.
We are on the cusp of another Colony Wars. We need to do everything possible to protect humanity.
And there is no House to serve if there is no House left standing.
I await your response.

A new face. I was concerned as I hadn't heard anything from your organisation.
What you ask is beyond the realms of possibility for my people. While we have free access to almost all of Bretonia, I cannot, and will not, put them in undue harm from their own brothers and sisters.
However, I have a compromise, which would be the better option for such endeavours.
Since my lad's recce of Tohoku, I have grave concerns that this technology we are using, is quite substantially linked to alien technology. Seems blindingly obvious given what we know, but I like facts, not speculation. I was going to be authorising one of our research vessels to conduct certain observations of both the Essex and Somerset. This would be to assess whether or not the technologies harnessed within possess a threat to Bretonia, and whether an outbreak of alien willingness had broken out amongst the crews.
Now, what I propose, you organise a small team of scientists, agents, whatever you need, my vessel picks them up from an undisclosed location, my lot collect whatever data they need, and yours do the same using our equipment.
I have already expressed my concerns over the jump drives with the Admiralty of the Armed Forces, so such a vessel appearing in their operations area wouldn't be a surprise to anyone. This way, we both get what we need, with less risk.
What say you?
I don't doubt we are on the cusp of another Colony War, the sands have been shifting as of late. Listen, I'd much rather focus my time on ridding ourselves of the threat that alien species are to our way of life, but I am one man, an aging one, standing with very few loyal followers to protect an entire house from outside threats. Times have changed, everyone we encounter is out there with one thing on their mind, themselves.
Unity is what we need, as a species. To sit down with one another, rid ourselves of prejudices, move forwards as one. Sadly, I don't see it happening. Hell, I'd even sit down with Gallia. While their acts on Leeds can never be forgotten, we must move forwards as different threats grow. It saddens me that more people don't think as we do, for the betterment of humanity. I fear my time is slowly passing, what time I do have will be used for the good of everyone.
One day, we will stand shoulder to shoulder, on the same side of history.

Frankly I expected a no. A compromise, though, is already better than what I expected. While this nascent...friendship has barely begun, the olive branch is not ignorable. You're right. Everything would be better if we could set aside our prejudices and anger, if we could stand side by side as humanity, united in the shared idea of persistence in the face of annihilation and the hope of a better tomorrow. But at the same time, we would be forced to subjugate Sirius to that ideal. is that how far either of us would wish to go, though? The Order knows we will be the villains of history. We've done things you and yours have, but unlike the concepts of National Security, endless propaganda, and a refusal to bow to an oversight committee...we will be forced to become history's scapegoat. Despised. But we still fight. As long as humanity persists to hate us, then there's a humanity we have protected.
I don't look old. But I've fought this war since the beginning. I've fought a losing war again and again. I believe our fight only ends either when we finally die, or when we give up. I personally, Admiral Fairfax, will choose to die before I give up. If I am to die fighting the Nomads, then I will die leaving an everlasting wound upon the Mindshare. An ever-burning reminder of the courage of humanity. I will not give up. And I don't think you will either.
My team will be standing by on Barrier Gate Station for pickup.
For humanity. Let's protect what we can, who we can. There's no use lamenting a unified Sirius we cannot shape. So let us look to what we can do.
Thank you for your trust in us, Admiral. I strive to never let down those who finally put their trust in us.

I've had word that the Athena has moored at Barrier Gate Station and will remain there for the next few hours to avoid suspicion. She is currently flying the colours of a Cryer Research Vessel, something she'll slip out of when she gets closer to home. Your team can approach anytime from now, but be sure they announce themselves as listeners of Prospectus Light, my crew will know what to do. If they do not, they will be turned away.
The whole circus of Nomad control must come to an end. They have done far too much damage, in the past and present. With what we learned of Tohoku, I fear that more damage is to come.
To sit back and do nothing would be a crime, while our relations are only sprouting above ground currently, I hope they will flourish into a mighty Oak. Humanity will prevail.
