Hello to all first, I am still a bit new to Discovery (played discovery beta a little bit alongside other mods long time ago),
but I am and old Freelancer comrade.
I encountered many great things in this mod, battleships are a big threat for fighters, well I am a pretty pure fighter player but to be honest I like battleships.
There are really no problems for a pvp player with satisfied rp skill to get good along.
But lately I encountered a few problems with Nanobots.
There are several players who think it is a great idea, during a pvp fight, when they use up all of their Nanobots to shoot any nearby NPC's to tractorbeam more Nanobots, do that repeatedly till the fight lasts a hour and is a joke.
I encountered enough, and for me using only pure guns and a wasp it is frustrating after ten times destroying enemys almost whole hull each time.
I actually never used nanobots in the past in other mods/servers, but i do not have any problems adapt to others and use it myself because Bots&Bats are of course a big part of Freelancer and were integrated in this mod very good, compliment to the Admins.
The problem is that there really should be a little bit more restriction to usage of nanobots, like:
''Usage of Nanobots/Bats is allowed only as many your Ship allows you to carry without regain during one/each PvP/RP Fight.'' or anything in that direction.
I think this will make it fair for everyone, because any HF can carry enough nanobots to make a fight long and interesting enough.
Pop them when they start farming. It's easy enough...they become huge targets as soon as they start shooting NPCs, and you can't farm fast enough (unless it's a repair ship NPC)
My dreadnought will often resupply allied ships in a combat situation if they request it. Of course it comes down to PVP fairness right? So its a fine line you need to walk. If lawfuls outnumber the unlawfuls its best not to be involved, but if the unlawfuls are more in numbers.. it may be fair to help allies. (in a non pvp way)
Iâll carry this flag
To the grave if I must
Because itâs flag that I love
And a flag that I trust
I tend to play by generally outdated 'honor code' when I find myself in a fight.
I never use more bots than I have on my ship at the moment the fight begins...If I happen to have 10 B&B's in my hold when the bolts start flying, then I have to simply deal with that reality.
...& because I refuse to budge on that code, I loose more often than I should.
But, while my opponent farms like what my character considers a kneebiting coward, I die as the bigger man.
...albeit a bigger man scattered in many pieces floating in space.
I think Marburg hit the nail on the head of what you should do. It's just bad form, is all. Not really much you can do to counter it, but if the players are so set in stone to win, then it's their choice to do that.
EDIT: By no means is it what is stated in my sig.
[8:32:45 PM] Dusty Lens: Oh no, let me get that. Hello? Oh it's my grandma. She says to be roleplay.
[12:49:19 AM] Elgatodiablo: You know its nice that you have all that proof and all, Bacon... but I just don't believe you.
if someone kills NPCs that are hostile to his faction, its all fine.... its RP, remember - for the char... the other player is an ace pilot, the other NPCs are maybe regulars... he ll focus on the ace, but if needed, will take down the regulars, too.
its another case if he shoots neutral NPCs or friends even
