I don't have one overall pattern. Certain groups or characters might have a pattern, but I don't have one for all my ships.
Lunar Eclipse, unofficial now one-man mercenary group because the other three people stopped playing:
Masamune (IMG Gunboat): Named for the swordsmith - it was the storage ship, so a swordsmith seemed like a good name source. Only a Gunboat because Mercenary ID can't use Transports.
Kusanagi (IMG Gunboat): Named for the legendary Japanese sword, it's Masaru Yoshida's gunboat.
Silvereye (IMG Gunboat, shared): Little backstory here - LE got its name from a long-running series of very small guilds I've had in other games. This gunboat got its name from my typical guildmaster character, an archer/sniper/gunner (depending on game) named Calin Silvereye.
Azure Line Shipping, unofficial now one-man trader group, see above:
Cerulean (Border Worlds Transport): The company is named Azure Line Shipping, what'd you expect?
Black Wind (Raven's Talon): Nathan Black, the man who started ALS, used to be a pirate. This was his ship. He never bothered renaming it, and wasn't good at picking out something really unique.
Outcasts:
Phantasm (Outcast Destroyer), Apparition (gunboat): I wanted a ghost theme for Ayumu's names. I haven't decided why.
Other:
Argent Star (Pirate Transport, smuggler): Just liked the name.
Noblesse Oblige (Pirate Transport, short-lived pirate): I wanted a name that definitely hadn't been taken. Considering it was an attempt at the Robin Hood routine, I'd say it fit well enough. As expected, the rich weren't in the habit of not running... but neither were the poor! People in Rhinos and Startrackers that I intended to give some starting money to ran before I could say anything! So, yeah, gave up on this one.
The LNS Citadelle de Quebec is named for the Citadel of Quebec in Quebec City. It was a fortress guarding the old city during the war, and now is somewhat part of canadian history.
I also named the LNS Citadel of Montreal (stewcool' cruiser), named after the real Citadel of Montreal that was destroyed by the british during the war.
The LNS Niagara Falls, likewise, was named after the Fort Niagara Falls that fell to the americans (I think?) during the first american invasion of Canada (I think?)
The LNS Fortress Louisburg is named after the real Fortress of Louisburg built by the french to protect their colony in nort america. It was thought invincible. Until a fleet of british navy ships required its surrender.

The IMS Red Dawn II is named after a ship in Star Wars I think...

The KNF Amaterasu is named after the japanese mythology godess of the sun.
With a streamline/Phalic (I use that term very subtlely) shape that's a bit wide at the end when looking at the dual engine blocks on each side. with 2 bridge like portions and 1 launch bay (much like the Gekko's (eureka 7) bay only on the deck in a stair case fasion. the very front is extremely similar to the head of MG RAY.
-----------
It's black and gold/yellow with a hint of blue on certain parts.
-----------
The only ship like it (evolved through micro engineering of it's controller. Basic story is she's human enginieered (or altered) by a highly advanced network of nanomachines enabling her to control vessels of a specific origin ( non-earth human affiliated her creators are human....but a differant strain of such which somehow [still working on it] had existed on the other side of the galaxy being a type of back up for the one that intially piloted the ark-like vessel which carried her and her creators to a back water planet several lightyears from earth and their own).
The ship is actually a combination of of a conventional carrier from the nation in my story meant to be an American equivalent and batteship of the "other sentient/human-like race". In a desparate situation the nanomachines answer to the fear and will to survive of Isis R. and force a giant cocoon like energy field around the ship wrecks saving all in danger and capturing the remain of the 2 fallen ships.
-----------
It being the product of the carrier and battleship takes on the best (and possibly worst) qualities, through a proccess very similar to natural selection(I think that's the term).
-----------
It being a black ship it makes me think of shadows it's streamline appearance calls for a name expressing sleekness. A french name regarding something dark.

My answer The Silhouette
These steps could be used for anything like characters as well.
Oh, and the LNS Hampton Roads, which later because 522nd.
Hampton Roads was the site of a Civil War battle.
Zealot Wrote:Just go play the game and have fun dammit.
Treewyrm Wrote:all in all the conclusion is that disco doesn't need antagonist factions, it doesn't need phantoms, it doesn't need nomads, it doesn't need coalition and it doesn't need many other things, no AIs, the game is hijacked by morons to confuse the game with their dickwaving generic competition games mixed up with troll-of-the-day.
