Nexus is a cap ship space sim. Here's what ive heard: Apparently the graphics are really good (dedicated "Black Sun" engine by Mithis). The gameplay really lets you control large fleets of cap ships and their fighter wings etc in good detail, including energy configurations ofr the cap ships and weapon etc loadouts. The AI for fleet management takes quite a lot of micro management away from you.
However, it is not a Homeworld in terms of fighter ship formations and the look and feel is different to Homeworld (Homeworld currently the closest ive had to big space fleet management).
I guess it is like Starfleet Command except you do control fleets and their support craft. There is quite a deal of strategy in using cap lfeetweapons and energy profiles to survive.
lastly, ive heard the ship graphics and models are really good. has multiplaye rbut i dont thin it is open ended like freelancer. multiplaye ir smore like freespace 2 i think.
i have the game and i loved it.. awesome gameplay nice graphics ,u micromanage more the ships than in homeworld games so its very cool to contantly seek new enemy info and deal with it.
the singleplayer storyline makes u actually live that...its very imersive watching the missions movies..
i only found one problem.....
its the only game i liked more to play singleplayer than online..trully online was kinda crappy, lost interest on game really fast
was not like homeworld 1 or homeworld catalysm or homeworld 2
the singleplayer are great and online is even better
never played starfleet comand so i cant compare
Capital ships down to the last operational detail (thrusters all around the ship firing according to the manouvers, turrets aiming and having effective angles etc) and also, a very immersive storyline (reading the captain's log make's you really get into the game universe).
Also, the upgrade system makes for some very interesting tactical choices. You can have the light frigates outfitted with shieldkillers and equipment lasers, doing hit-and-runs killing enemy shields, then you bring in the heavys (corvettes, the Angelwing) decimating your opponents.
Not to mention the cloak mission where you have to hack in the base and revert the mine IFF systems... I had to plan my movements down to the last second to avoid detection. I felt like a pretty bad-ass commander after that mission was done...
Sadly though... It's one of these little diamonds that did not get the publicity it should had...
