another non RPish reason for a faction is the attractiveness of ships. - if one faction has a boring RP background, but offers superior shipdesign and stats, - it will become popular, while another faction might offer a vast amount of roleplay - but bad ships... henceforth they won t be popular.

Hence why so many Corsairs - nice-to-play RP and the most gorgeous bomber in all of Sirius:P

LSF is here only because it was start for SP game, and is not really explained what it is, or what is his role.

Hogosha, even if theory is good, they are fail in setup. They would be nicer if they would be something else than Kusari replacement for junkers.

Gateway because it seems as "just to be here" part of bretonia.

I've always thought of them as being the Liberty equivalent of the FBI. They deal with more high-profile and larger crimes than the LPI. Sort of a holdover from pre-LPI liberty law enforcement. If they take much from present day US, then there was originally no centralized police force, rather a seperate one for each system, to which the LSF could cross jurisdictions for Liberty-wide crime.... My thoughts, anyway.
