' Wrote:Quite true. But with FAM and this /givecash command ... here's the scenario ...

1. Person makes FAM account name "ROLEPLAY" and creates character "Bank" or something less likely to draw attention
2. Person uses /setcashcode command
3. Person makes FAM account name "FUN"
4. Person creates a new character
5. Person uses /givecash command with the [anon] field to transfer their starting credits to "Bank"
6. Person deletes character
7. Person repeats 4 thru 6 continuously till caught ... account name "FUN" is locked and banned
8. Person makes FAM account with a new name
9. Person repeats 4 thru 8

Minimum transfer for /drawcash or /givecash on server is 100K (I think). Starting cash is 8.5K...*should* be impossible to credit farm.

Oh yeah, lots of things are logged by the server. Most transactions can be traced including anonymous ones.

For the bank commands, could a 'log' feature be made? ie.
/showbanklog 20 (shows the last 20 withdrawals).

Makes it easier to keep track of things, and also spot theft.

I have gotten 10,000 from a give cash transfer before... not sure there is a low end limit.

Edit just tested: 10000 is the lower limit.

Technically speaking, it is in roleplay for a trader to protect their credits. Actually, it would be roleplay for anyone to want to protect their credits (what do you think hiring escorts do?). Please do not generalize all traders as OORP, Powertrading, Capwhoring, bigots. Though I do agree that a new rule is not necessary.

In cases of theft, it is NEVER the victims fault (unless the "victim" is committing insurance fraud). Nobody "asks" to have their home invaded. Nobody "asks" to have their wallets taken. Nobody "asks" to be the victim of identity theft. Yes, people have the responsibility to ensure their valuables are safe, however they cannot be held accountable. Although the likelihood that the victim will receive justice is relatively slim, everyone is entitled to justice.

There is another thing that I want to bring up, however I feel that it may be out of place to discuss here, plus I do not want to use it just to prove a point.

Then it's a mistake, it will go up to 100k.

Hey, Folks.

I'm just trying to get this to work. I've been trying to transfer funds from one of my own ships to another without success. Forgive my ignorance but do both profiles have to be logged in to do this?
Every time I try it I get an error.

No they don't need to be logged in at the same time, (how would you do that anyway?)
If character Fred wants to transfer one million to character Doris then you log in as Fred and whilst still sitting in Dock you open up the chat window and type /givecash Doris 1000000 and press enter. A message will appear teling you the transfer is done. Don't put spaces or commas in the amount. Should be fine.

There is a limitation - if either one of the characters has been renamed the "old" way then these commands will not work. There's another thread somewhere around here where you can ask for your characters to be fixed.

Spaces in the amount is bad but it will accept and ignore commas and dots (this was added a version or two ago)

What error are you getting?

EDIT: /showbanklog 20 (shows the last 20 withdrawals) added to user command wish list. http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?ac...22351&st=0#

Good to know. That at least solves that issue.

Well ... thanks for taking me out of context. Yes ... protecting your credits is within role play. BUT ... it is not role play to inject a "server rule" to protect them. Server rules do NOT equate to role play. Server rules are there as an equalizer ... they make things "fair" or at least make the attempt to even the score a bit. You wanna role play protecting your credits ... create a passcode that nobody can guess and keep it to yourself.

As for traders ... I'd say about 90% of those I've encountered do not role play. My apologies to the 10% that do role play.

[general audience]
If you leave your stuff where others can get it ... who are you going to complain to? If you lock your valuables in a safe the insurance company will be obliged to pay up. However ... if you leave your stuff out in the open for all to see ... the insurance company will look at you and say, "your loss." May not be "your fault" for the stuff getting stolen, but you failed to take appropriate precautions.

You do realize that there's a REASON you have a lock on your front door, a password for your e-mail account, a password for this forum, an ignition key for your car, etc etc etc. Its to keep the honest people honest. If you lock your door, create complex passwords and keep your keys in a safe place you won't have to worry so much about your stuff. Your risk is much smaller if you take precautions.

Why do you think insurance companies give you discounts for having a car alarm, a house alarm, a fenced yard, etc etc etc. Its because YOU have taken precautions to protect your stuff.

Now to the real issue of what Dopamino said that irritates me ... you do not get to claim your cash AND the robber's cash. If that's the case ... here ... my passcode is ABCD123 ... go rob me ... that way the admins will give me my 583k back as well as your 735 mil. Do you understand how absurd that is? The only thing I should get back is 583k. For the robber ... place him in Bastile for a week to simulate being caught by the cops. Then maybe fine him 2 mil for violating the law. Do you understand that you can role play this stuff? Geez.

' Wrote:Then it's a mistake, it will go up to 100k.

Well ... if anything ... this discussion has brought this to your attention.

By the way ... I've got a proposal for rule breakers. It seems to me that taking folks credits and weapons are not proving to be a good enough deterrent to breaking the rules. Instead of siphoning their money ... place them back in a starflea with no weapons, a Criminal ID and make them red with everyone everyone. They can still have their cash ... but they're gonna have a hard time getting back to the ship, equipment and reputation they had before breaking the rules.

Since this will take them some time ... it allows everyone else time to enjoy the game instead of dealing with the guy coming back too quickly. Plus I think its a powerful enough statement for them to role play. You can make the cash back quicker than you can rebuild your character's ship and rep.
