Gunboats are fine, they need to be a bit more expensive, but as of now they are just fine.
Cruisers suck 11 ways to satan's dick. I have used both the LSC and the OC Dessie. I got killed by 2 non armored IMG gunboats in 3 minutes, and I ain't a shabby Cap-user. Hell, one Liberty Gunboat did indeed kill my in my LSC. But then again, the LSC needs a buff, even if cruisers don't.

So, does this thread actually offer any suggestions or is it just a way for us to flame back and forth?
Ahem, any way... I've started flying Gunboats quite recently. I've fought (and killed) everything from Dreadnaughts to Seige Cruisers, Cupholders, many, many Battlecruisers Rocs and Liberators (I killed him by accident, I swear >:), and countless other Gunboats. Much like Bombers, Gunboats are only really effective against Crusiers and up in pairs, and against a Dreadnaught you pretty much need 3, any less and you just can't get enough DPS. It took me, Tycho and Ench like, 30+ minutes to kill a Dreadnaught with two battlebarges and a Tridente.
I used to think Gunboats were a useless ship class. Then I flew one for myself and realised that everyone else just sucks at it. I'm a total noob and I still kill every other gunboat I come across :|
Just like any other ship class, the ship is only as good as the person behind the keyboard.

There is ONE, and only one anti-cap weapon a gunboat should have.
The Forward Cannon. Everything else should be primaries and anti-fighter weapons. If a gunboat doesnt have a forward gun? It is a GUNSHIP - primarily for anti-fighter work.
Say that to my PUUULLSSSEEE CANNNONNNS!
-insert pictures of me killing Cruisers with Pulse/Razor-
I don't have any on this PC though >:

A gunboat's shield capacity is 140.000 with a regeneration of 2000 while a 'SNAC' only does 66.000 on a shield. By the time you can fire it again the gunboat's shield has already re-charged.
Yeh, bombers can easily take out cruisers but gb's are difficult.. but if you are with 2 bombers that would be no problem. (the best, I got a rheinland anti gb fighters.. 5 plasma cannons (FirekissmkII)
And we got some phantom's dodgers..
Cruisers really don't suck if you have them equiped right. They really can't be multi purpose though. The varyag really does a number vs gb and other cruisers because of the anti cap loadout. If it gets swarmed by bombers I die pretty quick with the slow track speed of primaries. Deads just shred it. A cruiser with mortars has a half descent chance vs a lone dread if you keep it at 1.5 to 2 k away.
My flak cruiser with almost all solaris really tears bombers apart, it does ok vs gb, not so well vs multiples. A LABC stands a good chance as long as they are not the light gb that dodge well.
A cruiser with even a moderate escort will turn the tide of a battle though.
Gunboats are uber.
Two gunboats can take on any capital ships.
Hell I remember me + other IMG gunboat taking out Storta, 2 falcatas and poorly flown tridente. Easily.
And bombers vs gunboats - there are certain ways on how to fly gunboat where you cant nearly hit it while it rains you down with chain or even triple chain.
Pulse and Razor on gunboats can own anything big. Normal turrets put you on range disadvantage and cap can blow you away. Visit Liberty, try it! You will find a gunboat bunch that takes out ships like flies. 1500 range with that speed and power useage = laughable. And the sppeed and agility, bwahahah. You aint hitting it unless you are awesome with your weapon groups on capital ship. It just thruster shoots you out of effective range and boom, you are dead. Have a nice day.
Gunboats > everything else. Think you can kill it in bomber? Well, try dual missile GB. Fail, try again. Or try chaining ekiller. You dead too.
Two GB>One cruiser. About 75% of the time. That is all, good day.
Right. Now I have to jump in here again...
The Falcatas and Tridente could've taken your gunboats down very easily. Skill is a very large deciding factor in gunboats - you can either fly them, or you can't.
As for gunboats destroying "any capital" I would very much like to see evidence of two gunboats destroying even the weakest battleship in the game, the Mako, alone. It just doesn't work.

Well, i dont know about two Gunboats, but i have destroyed a Legate (cap 7 or 8) in a Bottlenose while accompanied by a lone bomber, and given that Gunboats have more firepower than Bombers over a long period of time (especially if they are using BRs and pulses), id say that 2 well flown gunboats should be able to take down most Battleships, unless the BS pilot got some skillz.
And one other thing, Siege Cruisers are the best anti GB Cruisers in the game if you can aim the foreward gun. This is because they are one of the most agile, and when you hit the foreward gun on some GB hull, it really eats into it. For example, back when i had the Little Bighorn, the first day i flew it i had no armour what so ever, and i went of on a little trip around Liberty, met 2 Rogue GBs (one of which was a cap 4 the other was UAU 8 IIRC). While the Gunboats managed to do a lot of dammage (made me use almost all my regens), with the agility of the Siege Cruiser and the firepower of the foreward gun, i eventually killed the both of them. Now, i do not claim to be a good pilot, but if i can beat two armoured rogue GBs in an unarmoured siege cruiser with nothing but primaries and the foreward gun, then i cannot see why anyone would complain about their capabilities.
The only cruisers that suffer against GBs are the heavy cruisers, light cruisers will make short work of GBs if used right, and if the GB pilots are rather inexperienced, then of course cruisers will beat them, but 3 experienced GBs against a heavy cruiser (even if he is a good pilot) will almost always end up with the destruction of the cruiser. This is the result of one simple fact, light cruisers match GBs on agility while having superior firepower (and in general very good firing arcs), BSs beat GBs with overwhelming firepower and armour, but heavy cruisers are stuck in the middle, with neither good agility or overwhelming firepower (and in particular the lack of good firing arcs), making them easy prey for GBs.
So IMO GBs, cruisers and BSs are balenced right now, but heavy cruisers are at a disadvantage through lack of turret coverage. I think the only thing that needs doing is a slight buffing of heavy cruiser firing arcs, other tthan that, everything is ok IMO.
