Right... now that that's taken care off...back to topic
There is the OOC fact that alot of capital ships cause lag. It's just the way things are. NPC caps even more and since they spawn in every system, I'll admit that either a very good server is behind this, or it's very well modded :)
But as of late the server's been laggy, due to what some say are the amount of Playerfiles, well that may be part of it but it can't be all of it....
Perhaps some sort of restriction of caps should be applied...
If we make it a server rule it'll be broken regularly.
This is because we can have the server console messages telling people to read the rules, here on the forums, cover the screen and be neon orange and people will still either not bother or not see them!
Plus the only ways to police it would be either having the admins trawl through the playerfiles every so often or form a server police group.
Neither of which is gonna happen.
Besides, regardless of what price tag you stick onto a BS, people are still gonna trade and trade until they can get one.
The only viable way to stop players using capships is to remove them.
i dont think there is anything we can do about cap ships.....removing them isnt an option, ppl will save for longer to get 1 and you cant get the admins to go through every player file (there must be hundreds).
mabey to purchase a battleship you have to be full freindly with the faction and have their id (if its possible to do that). That would ruin the ship allocations for the Shadow Stalkers Organisation that i suggested though.
And why not a server-police group? [SP].
We had them in Freeworlds and it worked great. The admin handpicked a group of people who were mature enough and had good knowledge of the rules and everything.
From what I've seen the same thing could apply here.
Just a couple of seemingly "oldtimers" who I believe would be up for it:
Several of the "Angels" (they already have a job similar to this).
Dark Oddity
Marauder
alpha 429
Caylith
and ofcourse the admins
And these are just people that I've met ingame or seen on the forums with mature posts or already have positions similar to this.
Ofcourse players would need to help them, IE: you see a player in a BS that is not supposed to be in one: Screenshot and inform or PM an SP.
It's the way things worked on FreeWorlds and though this is NOT freeworlds (believe me i'm aware of that, sometimes painfully) it can work here too.
Another server: Cursed Earth. They dont have SP's but have the JUDGE system which is basicly the same thing.
You've got to be open to something to allow it to work but all i'm getting from people here (and in other threads on other people's suggestions) is "No wont work here, end of story" but no reasons :)
I would just like to point out ... That server police is, and as far as I know, never been,
and never will be an option on this server.
You also seem to have someone on you list who has been here just about one month ...
Not long standing or experienced enough to command a position like that around here.
All the admins, when necessary, can step into their tagged chars to fulfil this role.
Thats why this server for the most part works as well as it does, and stays unique in this
the respect that Igiss has never felt the need to employ them.
I would like to think that most of the long standing members are helpful enough and
responsible enough to have a full understanding of the rules of conduct, and the do's and
dont's, to advise without having to have a char just for that purpose.
Keep it simple.

Never said the list was final or perfect, just a few that I seemed to find appropriate but then again i'm only here for 2 weeks myself.
I'm not talking about all the rules but a few basic concepts such as a limited ship or the rule of not rejoining (if you have it, didn't look close enough) should and can be enforced this way.
And it doesn't have to be a seperate char but a list of people willing and authorized to act upon cheating (such as the incident with Maximillian) and other donts can be enough.
But I guess that my arguements aren't making much headway so i'll drop it...
Sorry MystacX ... The Max incident did get right up my nose, especiallly as I had, had to
listen to his crowing on the server on several occasions. And he would listen to no advice
from me, and I suspect would have listened to none from a server police char either.
As for the cheating aspect, server police, as with all the long standing and responsible
members, could have only reported their suspicions to the admins.
I would like to think we would all do that in the future ...
I will say thanks D.O. for posting his chat board on this occasion.

Okay. I cannot believe this is being brought up*AGAIN*, so i'm gonna put my foot down about it.
1) The Server Police concept has been discussed before, and has been shut down repeatedly. MystacX, the people you named are a few of the people who are "helpful" in some way, but do not command respect of the server (Alpha and Marauder do, but the rest haven't even gotten to the point to being trusted by the Admins *THAT* much).
I take the server admin role *EVERY* seriously and i'm VERY selective as to who is gonna be an admin as they get Remote Access to the server's desktop. THAT alone is a security hazard, and unless they can be 100% impartial in any situation (meaning, they can be impartial even when the person is pissing them off) THey won't get the job.
Adding a Server Police faction to the server will do absolutely NOTHING but create more problems, rather than solve them. We are not that big, and nor do I want to see people wanting to join a server police faction, cause the risk of abusing that position is simply too great.
2) Only authorized ADMINISTRATORS are authorized to act on server rule violations. NO ONE ELSE. Anyone else attempting to do so in any way, fashion, or form (that includes modding to see if the mod is buggy or whatever) will result in an immediate ban from the server. It may be permanent. I do not take things like this lightly.
There are *FOUR* Server admins. Igiss, Korrd, Angel and myself. That's all we need. We've kept this server stable long enough without a server police ON-SERVER. We have no need for one right now, so lets not go down this debate road again.
User was banned for: Compromised account
Time left: (Permanent)

^^
Anyway, get the point now.
But to clear up any remaining confusion: Server Police have certain tools available for them through Ioncross with which they can kick players and (if enabled) ban them. They do not require remote access to your server in any way.
I agree with Wolfpack & Others on this issue, server police characters tend to just sit around Manhattan in their "uber" admin modded ships doing nothing, causing problems ect, and thats in 99% of servers that use server police. I personally think the administration is just fine and we don't need server police to enforce the rules, if a rule is made, and a player see someone breaking it, they take screenshots and report it, from what I'm getting that has been the way it's always worked here, and it works.
