Well, official factons have more prestige, so to say, but if you ask me, they should have the final word in capital ship "distribution" at least. It depends from case to case, altough in reality the official factions represent the faction itself, and "indies" are just members of the faction. So the officials should have kind of power.

Throw stones on me, but this is the fact.

I've actually always disagreed with this. I don't think player factions should be able to represent the entirety (or sole ruling body) of an NPC faction. No LN or BAF or RM or KNF, just one particular battlefleet. And since player factions don't have absolute power over their ZoI, it doesn't make sense for them to try and represent the entirely of their NPC faction.

You know, it seem to me that the Admins expect the official factions to coerce indies into good behavior.

You know what that sounds like to me?

OORP.

Forgive my cynicism. Too much to do right now for me to stay and argue.

I have same opinion as Del in that... we (offi. factions) have more "must to do" than "we can do".

Especialy I've heard rumor about rules in 4.85, oficial factions must allow to indies enter THEIR guarded systems to buy caps. Why did we payd 500m?

Actually Eppy, we expect you to assume that folks are going to be well behaved, just as the Admins expect folks to be good folks and obey the rules. We don't ask you to sign a thread saying you've read the rules and we don't punish folks for not doing so. It would be nice if the 101st saw things this way as this is the way that discovery has worked since those rules were first pinned.

Innocent until proven guilty. That is the way of the modern world and it should be the way of the modern official faction too.

You can't just sit outside of Manhattan shooting starfliers because they might behave badly later.

' Wrote:Ok, First of Dab, you are a member of the development team and have been for a good while, so when you say "I have designed 6-7 systems blah blah blah" you speak as though anyone can make any system they want, which is not true. Second, all this talk about faction members talking about this or that on skype about factions loosing their power? I haven't heard any of that from my faction members in the Brotherhood or the AFA, nor have I heard it from anyone in the factions I am in, I dont hear it from the LR, and I dont hear it from the RM, I dont hear it from Joe and the Ros folks, nor the Benitez. So please people lets not act like this is all factions members feeling something.
Well I've seen a good 8 people mod systems by now, so if you have the knowledge enough to do it and you follow Igiss' guidelines, yes, just about anyone can do it. Right now the system submission for anyone not pre-approved has been suspended since we don't want to delay 4.85 any longer, but before that, anyone was allowed to submit a system. So don't act like its such an exclusive club. Access to the dev forums is, submitting a system isn't.

And I never said faction members. To answer you, yes, several faction members. Including some from BAF, 101st, GC, and several people from other factions. I won't give names here, because its not my place to do so, but as you can see above, there ARE people with concerns here, so trying to invalidate what I say with the excuse that people don't agree with some of the things I said is a wasted effort.

' Wrote:To the main issue, I run two factions here, and I didnt do it to police what other people do. If you think the main benefit of being an official faction is that you get to dictate to and bully your npc faction independents, then you did it for the wrong damn reason, and you should pull down your faction post right now. The role of an official faction is to be an example, not a fascist. We get to have a significant affect on the way the role play develops for the entire npc faction. I think that is significant. System owning factions get to design a system that fits their specifications, for their role play. That is also significant.
I wouldn't make an official faction just to police what other people do or their ships. Those were just two specific examples that have been given a lot of advertisement lately, and are hotly contested. Especially in light of the admin's most recent notice.

And if you think official factions can provide an example, I must say in my opinion, your sadly mistaken. First; Any unnofficial faction can provide example just as easily as an official one does. Those in the need of good examples and role models spend most of their time on the server, not the forums. And the unnofficial factions can accompish everything an official faction can in-game. In fact, many independent players DON'T want to listen to faction players simply because they are faction players. Their opinions are squashed with the excuse of 'Your a faction player, you just want your way!' Don't try to say it doesn't happen, for I see it in Alpha and Kusari daily. Furthermore, the official factions can NOT dictate NPC role play development AT ALL. Right now BAF and KNF are at a standstill. In fact, taking into account the latest event, BAF has a slight advantage. That is not being reciprocated in the mod NPC-wise.

And lastly on the system issue. Anyone may come to a modder and request, and even pay, for a system to be built for them. The only difference between an unofficial and official faction here is that the rules state the official faction can own them.. But what can the official faction do in there that the official one cannot? If your the correct NPC alignment tag and ID-wise, you can do exactly the same things the official faction can do.

An example of this is Kuraine coming to me with the request to mod Okinawa. It is not a guard system, no, but it could have been made one. Furthermore, he came to me as a player, not the GC faction leader, and there was no money changing hands. Anyone can request a system be modded, your faction membership/leadership status has absolutely nothing to do with it.

' Wrote:If you dont think you get something out of it, dont do it, but the role of a faction is not to decide who can get a ship. If they do something wrong with the ship, deal with it in rp. You dont like it? Pull down that faction post.

As stated above, that was one of two examples I used, and there are many other issues here. But even now, the faction's ability to respond even within role-play has been severely restricted and nearly non-existant. The only time they can react is if the ship's owner breaks a rule, which should be handled by sending a report to the admin, not by players in-game. So in effect, there is nothing here that they can do on that issue.

Getting to the reply to your post Del, taking me time to keep up here.

Actually del, when you register at these forums there's a little checkbox saying that you have read the rules. Not needed to get on the server I know, but it's a list saying that you have read and understood the rules.

Not a rumor. Properly tagged and ID'd indies who aren't being disruptive have to be allowed to do their thing, including going into the Guard system to purchase ships/IDs/equipment.

Anyone can come up with 500k (or a billion or two), that doesn't mean they should have authority over distributing capships.

But this is a discussion on what official factions CAN do, not a discussion of a subject which has already been discussed to death and officially decided by the Admin team. Faction's can't order around indies, that much is decided.

Understood the forum rules, not the server ones. You don't need to sign anything to play on the server, you do need to to post on the forums.
