Whilst mercenaries and bounty hunters can chase after bounties, Mercs can be hired on by people to do a job.

Does this have to be done publicly for it to be within the rules?
IE like how bounties have to be public now too.

All bounties need to be done in the forums. Seems it HAS to be public, well bounties need to be advertised anyway.

Oh and I asked Hoodlum if its ok to make bounties in game, screenshot them and so forth. He said no.

ALL bounties need to have a forum post, enough said.

Well, no, not really. Well i dont think so. Private deals can be done, and if the laws are broken then all it takes is a simple screenie.

A PM to admins goes a long way:

Fletcher Wrote:Regarding the announcement that bounties require a forum post of said bounty, what would happen if a bounty was arranged in-game?

Would we require screenshot of the arrangement and/or post in the forums aftr we log out?

This does affect my BHG Slater since he only kills bounty targets...

Thanks.

Fellow Hoodlum Wrote:On the forums only please, as this is becoming a problem now. In game ones are
the cause of that notice, they are very hard to pin down, and are being used, rightly
or wrongly for PvP abuse, so it will have to stop I'm afraid.
If someone wants to put a bounty up, it takes 5 minutes to post ...

Hoodlum

I hope that helps...

Edit for more relevance: I would say all contracts need to have a physical presence (ie, a forum post) for the admins to know it's not proposed for oorp/pvp purposes. That sounds reasonable to me, as I have seen a few bounties and kill on sight orders for quite silly and player-based reasons (instead of RP).

While bounties and other forum contracts may seem "public", in roleplay terms the vast majority of them would be hidden transmissions between various groups. I guess a lot of people don't distinguish the boundaries between player and character, as people use forum posts for metagaming.

I still think that bounties should be posted, so at least the admins can know about them. Whilst other forum members can see it, they should be responsible to know that it's metagaming information, and should not necessarily be acted upon in-game (OORP retaliations, etc).

I agree - that's why it's called Role Playing.

There have been times when I was assisting someone and they said, hey, he's headed to such and such base. Now I as the player know where that base is. However, my character didn't know, so I had to say, sorry, I don't know where that is.

Good role players can seperate the information that they know, from reading the forums or whatever, and from what their character can and does know. Bad role players - need to go play on their Xbox...

I always recommended Halo series

This message from the admins is perfectly reasonable. Doesn't affect me, since I always look up bounties, and some Blood Dragons and Outcasts may have noticed that I didn't touch them unless I was paid to, or got the incentive of bring paid to.

Good move admins I say.:D

If you are accepting a bounty then yes.
If you are simply hired for escort, then no.
If a mercenary, freelancer, or BHG arrives on the scene of combat and is available for hire to the participants, then the hiring should be done in system or local chat so that both sides of the conflict can see what is going on. Since mercenaries should be working for the highest bidder, both sides should have an opportunity to hire the merc. Mercenaries who just show up, choose a side and start attacking are going to be in big trouble.
Some of you mercenaries need to develop better business sense also. A government might pay for attacks on pirate groups, but those pirates may also be willing to pay you even more to leave them alone.

In Sigma-13 on my GMG a few days ago, we got a BHBB sitting in front of Naha. We ignored him for the most part, but then one little Titan came out of one of the tradelanes. The BB then fires a huge salvo of "warning shots" without a word, then once the Corsair heeds our warning to move off from the Naha, the BHBB says "put a bounty on him. just a small one"

A welcome change, good work guys.

Good to hear this being settled and quoted out by an admin. Because this has been abused, and I've seen it being abused, so good to know that unless they specify who the client is or make it known public, on forum or system chat, such pvp abuse can be sanctioned against.
