There have been a lot of talk in the past if server could run a batch where the rep of a char would be adjusted automatically according to one's ID. Gronath has been doing this little program. The problem has been that it might take a lot of time and could be done only when the server is down.

Could it be done so that when ever and ID is mounted = a bribe of the said faction? Then all one would have to do is unmount, remount and ID once in a while and the rep would be fixed like if one had bought a bribe?

Comments, problems?

EDIT:

The limitations are obvious like in case of a bribe. But it's at least something and all the mechanics of it are in place already.

I think this would cause more problems than good. What is to keep a player from going around ans switching out IDs until everyone is green? Or reequipping an ID until the guard Faction is green? It is too volatile in my opinion.

I don't think someone would be able to get everyone green as bribes do bring down reps of opposing factions. As for guard ID you can make it so it does not affect guard rep.

Its possible, but bribes don't lower opposing factions that much, its possible it would just take a while.

I suppose you could drastically increase the negative effects but then this would kind of kill special RPs.

That would be pretty hard to pull off in effort wise in any case. One has to be green to buy an ID anyway. So there's inherently effort required to get a rep to buy an ID. And carrying multiple IDs is one very quick way to get banned harshly. So I do not see very negative effects if this kind of thing would be implemented.

The way I understand you it should mean that:

At the moment you equip an ID it automatically adjusts your reputation to a set template for a given faction.

So for say a Liberty Rogue ID at the moment you mount it all allies will go green (might be adjusted how green), all enemies will go red and reputations of neutrals will remain unadjusted or set to neutral.
Your reputation to any guard faction (even your own) remains unaffected.

That I think is an awesome idea.

1. It does NOT fix your reputation in place, you can only choose to "reset" it by unmounting/mounting or re-buying the id.

2. It can't be abused since it always makes you red to those you should be red to.

RP wise it's like "sirius" got to know you have joined faction x.

The idea of using TEMPLATES (not a batch-routine) is pretty old and has already been discussed here a lot.

Nomatter how usefull and sensefull the use of templates might be, as it does not only make things easier, and would solve that permanent "ref-fix - issue" the adminteam doesn't seem to like this idea.

[color=#CC9933]They want the players to work for their desired rep, period!

On my old server, which was also an RP related server, we only made the best experiences with the use of templates, as everyone could start with the desired faction and faction relating basic equipment and participate in RP from the start on - no mess with faulty IFF, and of course noone needed an ID.

As it was very, very hard to improve the rep with another faction but very easy to lose rep (except the faction you started with), a char once created
usually never had the prob with switching IFF, the decission (affiliation) you made at the start usually never changed. At least not as long as you
played your role well, if you messed it up on purpose it could turn out that there was no more neutrals or friendlies left - which was the perma
death of that chars as it was no more playable.

So everything that was green was friendly and everything that appeared red was hostile pretty clear thing - but over here the idea is just not wanted.

So it doesn't make too much sense to start this senseless discussion again.

So you're saying this is actually possible? Wow and damn... I was expeting the 'ol 'we need the source code' line. If it was used like Mjolnir said, it wold be awesome.

Although special RP is an issue... And generic IDs, I suppose would remain the same?

I really meant it more like:

mount the ID = one time bribe

e.g. I mount an Hessian ID, which would be the equivalent of buying an Hessian bribe.

If I unmount it, nothing happens, but if I remount it the it would be a new bribe and so forth.

So it would not be a template per se with fixed reps.

The thing is that you have to work already to achieve the necessary status to be able to buy the ID. This system would only make it easier to maintain a certain rep once you have acquired it already. It would not affect the game mechanics.
