Well I came across these today, they are ad-supported, a 10 second ad usually pops up when you first start the game, in between levels, and when you close the game, still.. free games:D

The Suffering- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Suffering_(video_game)

Area 51-http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Area_51_(2005_video_game)

Rise and Fall: Civilizations at war- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/index.html?curid=2992760

I haven't tried a51 or R&F but I've been playing The Suffering(works fine, great game).. Also, not 100% sure if it will work for people outside the US.

Just thought I'd share this with people who didn't already know;)

why does a military organisation support video games?...
is that the new way to make recruitement? so people think the armed forces are games?

Um, in the past the Army has used games as virtual simulators, this all began back in the late 90's with some fps army based shooter, then it expanded to flight training with Flight Simulator and they also used a game forgot what it was called but it started on the xbox as a strategic fps army game when you control two squads alpha and bravo and complete a series of tasks.

Full Spectrum Warrior, I believe was the army game on the xbox.

And no, the commercial version isn't the same one they used for themselves. I imagine the same goes for anything they produce/endorse.

To think that they're using games for recruitment is unreasonably paranoid...

Yea the company that made it actually made two versions retail, and Army. And yea thank you ark, the game was Full Spectrum Warrior, it was an alright game too, but I could see how they can use this for training, not recruitment.

Yes, xing.. that's their plan, to show that modern war involves fighting mutants from hell in a prison, shooting aliens in a top secret military compound, and gathering large armies and equipping them with weapons and armor from medieval times..

If you noticed, all 3 games are from Midway, so the USAF probably made a deal with said company to release their older/not so popular games for free, and making them ad supported with recruitment videos for the USAF.

I don't see a problem, it can be done on TV/internet, it can be done in games too. Plus, gamers benefit from it;)

Its still the medium in which they are chosing to use for recruitment. Gamers certainly benifit, but how many of us are going to be convinced to join the Armed froces by brief 30 second ad flash? The entire thing sounds deperate and backwards to me.

Join your Armed forces and get free games! Is the message I feel this implies. When you think about the kind of recruits that message draws in, well it does not create allot of confidence in the Armed Forces.
