Nomad guns on corsair ship

should a corsair be allowed to have SOME nomad weaponry on his or her gunboat / cruiser / battleship, since they are sold by their closest allies, the order and nearby zoners. Corsairs are primarily active in edge worlds such as omicron kappa so shouldnt they be allowed to have some ?

** i keep making reference to SOME, i believe corsairs should also have several weapons of their own manufacturing

Why? Simply because i think weapons like the Nomie GB turrets should be restricted to Nomads and Wilde only, they are too powerful and would be prone to many people wanting them, because you have them.


Unless however you got some decent rp, making a good story on how you managed to recalibrate those weapons to work on your gunboat.

Doesn't mean you can use them however, its like the fact Deb guns are civilian weapons, but not everyone can use them, and have been sanctioned for in the past.

Personally, I don't like the idea of humans using Nomad weapons...

It's like on Warhammer 40K, humanity is extremely strict about the use of alien or Chaos weapons because they are "tainted". I think it should be the same here, unless there is some decent RP that they have been triple checked by Order scientists or whatever. But I still don't like seeing 'em on humans, even Order players.

it all depends on the point of view. - there is "no information" about nomad turrets. - so - the information and the lore is 100% up to the player him/herself.

there are few things that should be considered though. - for one... nomad turrets either use no turret graphic ( gunboat turret .... its just a stationary light ) - or they are blueish jelly blobs ( cruiser / battleship ) - however, that is most probably due to the fact that it was overlooked and there was no model assigned - rather than a thought out RP fact.

but - as i said, its up to the player to decide. residents of omicron delta ( and kappa, but there are no "residents" in kappa - so we can ignore that one ) regularly get in contact with nomad battleship patrols that involve fighters, gunboats and battleships. - when they explode, you can see their turrets float away ( as fragments - and they blow up, cause its scripted ) - it can easily be RPed to recover such fragments and use them for your own benefit.

by that time, it depends on how you define those weapons. - converted to human use ... like the fighter weapons... thats of course possible. - and the BHG is doing it, as well as selling the knowledge about them and the hardware itself - thats why they started a bloody war there.

the corsairs however have no "official" lore about any ambition to exploit the nomad forces. - they attack them or defense against them to secure their own affairs, but other than that.... they usually do not go for nomad technology.

so - if we get down to what a faction is about in certain parts of space....:

- the corsairs want to keep yaren depot as a far outpost and a link between the order and the corsairs. - it is a resupply base for their raid groups in that area and as a buffer against any nomad ambitions ( as well as zoner ambitions ) -- the corsair show a heavy presense there and it is the only system that they deploy battleships in.

- the zoners protect their space and do deep space research with an advanced sensor array. they use freeport 11 mainly as a hub for their trade with cobalt but also as a switchboard for occasional artifact smuggle. they employ a direct link to toledo / isis and have secured the area with stationary weaponplatforms expanding their claimed space over the pure freeport range.

- the BHG is ( currently still ) using freeport 11 as the main base from which they stage attacks against the nomad forces ( they only fight the order when the order is in the way between them and the nomads regarding to the lore ) so the BHG is the only force that is really determined to go after the nomad technology off of all residents of Delta. they rip the nomad ships apart and sell everything that can be sold or make other use of it.

in RP, its is plausible for BHG ships to use nomad technology - if its RPed that they figured out how to use it on their ships - and if its to their own benefit. - it does not necessarily mean that they are infected. - ( nomad turrets = infected is entirely player made up.... and not supported by any official lore )

corsairs would probably not use the nomad technology, cause they are proud on their own weaponry much more. keep in mind - the BHG would use nomad tech, cause they have no own warship weaponry ( yet ) - so they take what they can get.

zoners would probably not use nomad technology, cause they lack the ambition to make them compatible. - they produce their own weapons - and those weapons are entirely made for the edge worlds - where they deploy their heavy ships. - so there is simply no need to put money into developing a way to make nomad warship weapons usable.


edit: the short answer about "do corsairs use nomad weapons" would be : no - cause they are too proud on their own weapons to use other weapons. [ when its about the rules though - you can. there is no rule that says that one cannot use Nomad turrets on a warship - as it is not stated that the turrets are generic nomad produced or refitted for human use ( due to the lack of lore on the ID card ) - no one should be reported for using nomad weaponry in 4.84 - but they might have to explain the use to those that are looking suspiciously upon them ]

Corsairs have the right to Nomad weaponry as much as anyone else who can salvage them. It should be down to individual factions to decide who and under what circumstances they should be allowed to use them. I would urge all factions to discourage the use of nomad weapons unless they can produce significant reasons why they would be used over their own branded weaponry and in line with roleplay goals. The fact that corsairs have a base in Delta and border the system of Kappa means they will have exposure to both the nomad threat and the supply of weapons from fighting this threat. It makes sense that any factions in direct contact with the nomads with correct roleplay and common sense should be able to salvage up a few guns or turrets. It is up to faction leaders to ensure that the use of them is limited. As a guideline the OPG does not allow them on any corsair ships. We do however operate some raven talons which have been 'prepared and shielded' by the zoners and therefore can use the weapons safely. Our capital fleets do not use any nomad weapons however some of our gunboats are allowed to use up to 2 nomad turrets. This is due to the Capital mk 6 miminum requirement which provides the required shielding to protect the crew. All OPG titans, Preatorians and Centurions are fitted purely with appropriate RP weapons. If any arent let me know and Ill hand down some smackouts.

A few time ago, I killed everything having "nomad" in an equipment name. (thruster, cannons, turrets)

But .... Half of corsairs do it !
So I can't do it anymore.

well - its strange that people assume ppl are infected when they use nomad equipment. - it is one thing to RP being infected - and another to kill-them-on-sight. if a player does not RP to be infected.... it would be like coercion to label that person to be infected, when in fact - he does not RP to be infected. ( or in other words - its one sided RP )

nomad equipment CAN be used by players who wish to play being infected - but using the equipment does not make them infected - unless there is a lore / rumor - that says so.

One must be suffering from brain damage if said individual belives that having cancerous blue jelly BLOBS, which shoot energy, on their ship doesn't equal infection. (Same goes for thrusters)

All nomad turrets are organic in nature, as is the thruster, and using them on any ship which isn't fully organic is oorp.

... As for the hybrid guns... I see no problem what so ever in the corsairs using those.
