So, I just made my first forum signature in Photoshop. The idea is I had no idea how to do it, so I made it very simple. I want to know what I can do to make my Signatures better. I've seen some people who make Signatures with borders that look like control panels etc. I was wondering if you guys can give me some pointers. By the way the Signature I made is in my signature right now.

First? Very good. Alright, for one thing, the red colour seems a bit weird in it. closer to pink. The soviet emblem here represent something rough, hard, so the general theme colour should be a darker red I believe.

the "ARMEG" thing is too close to border. Never put stuffs so close to borders.

Thanks, I'll try fiddling around with the colors, is there a way i can change the color of all those grunge brushes that I've already put in the picture without messing with anything else?

fairly easily. make a layer over all the thing you want turn in red. Fill that layer with the redish colour you want, double click on said layer, then mess around with its fusion setting (sorry my psd version is french im not sure how its called in english, any way, its transparency stuff). Find one you like, and its done.

But won't that change the color of the entire signature not just the brushes?

exactly. You have to put the new layer exactly above the layer used by the brush only, otherwise it will change the entire signature.

Um. Heh, I didn't make a separate layer for anything except the Star. Was I supposed to? That must be a pretty common mistake for beginners.

So now I know it's smart to make everything in different layers. Another question, how do people make signatures that are oddly shaped? Such as they have a ship in the signature that is pointing out. Do they make the box a little larger, create the signature in the middle and then put the ship render in half over the signature and half over the transparent part?

yes indeed. Signature with transparency. they must however be saved in either gif or png format (preferable PNG for their higher quality)
