Ok, so what's the deal with languages in Sirius? Do all nations speak a single homogenic language, with certain colloquial differences, or is there a separate language used by each house (ie Kusarian, Bretonian) and a trading tongue used for interactions with others?
Edit: Or are we dealing with a technological version of the Babel Fish?
I think it's universally English with "ancient" Japanese and German phrases being slowly-forgotten remains, which sometimes form the house's specific dialect.
Every nation have own language ... but there are in my opinion also 2 universal languages used for comunication between houses.
Since there are 2 english speaking houses, I think universal language for comerce, house - house policy etc. in space controled by houses is english.
Second universal language is spanish which is used in Taus, Omicrons and Sigmas because there are as dominant power both wannabe houses based on offsprings of Hispania. Omegas are excluded because in last 100 years corsairs lost their dominancy in those sectors, new dominant power are hessians which are using own German language. In omega 7 are only Rheinland companies so this sector is without debate... rest of omega sectors havent dominant language. Zoners in omegas probably use both (spanish, german) languages - using cetrain language depend on situation because zoners are trying to be strictly diplomaticall in all situations.
well, seeing as how today, English is becoming a more popular language, or at least more widely used, i would assume that English would be the dominate language in the future. Though, the national languages would obviously not wither away, but would become art languages such as Latin. or secondary languages like the french speaking parts in Louisiana and Canada. or Spanish speaking parts of the western United States.

I agree the most with Darth Malak, another example of what he said would be that
Within the SCRA/Coalition some would speak Russian or Chinese because of the fact that the group is descendant of the old Coalition which was made up of primarily Russian and Chinese people, Though most speak English, due to it being the most widely used universal language.
Don't forget that today, English the planetary language of commercial aviation (regardless of what the French think). So I could see that, while there may be some 'national' language usage in Kusari, Rheinland, and Gallia on planetary surfaces, once you get into space, everyone would use English.
I vote for Star Trek thing. Evry race have own language, but some sort of universal translator, translete all you say.
So..Rhielanders would be speaking..some sort of German(after all 1000 and few years is great time for langugage to change),Kusari would be Jappanesse.
Universal tranlsator then..if Kusarian is speaking to Rhielander, would translete conversation.Meh,something like that.My opinion.

that's from star trek O.0 I didn't know...
but there is also a chance that there are recorded voices that are on English that the guys play when pirating or requesting to dock because of how every voice I hear is the same. (I know that it's the lack of voice actors, but that makes it fun). Just imagine a Blood Dragon pilot for example having a row of buttons that play messages such as "Drop the goods" when pressed, but are labeled in Japanese. Pretty cool, huh :D

Actually, only a minority of the Canadian population speaks French.
