You engage another player, they try to run but your facing the wrong way. So you hit cruise as well but suddenly they go from 5k out to 8k in a second then dissapear. May be lag, may be a mod?

How can you tell if someone is using a speed mod or a cruise speed mod? How can you be sure? If you are sure how can you record such an event???

People who have played online for years get that gutt feel when things seem a little odd. Any ideas?

Could be many things. An F1 for example, often causes the affected ship to fly off at higher than normal speeds, pointing in an odd direction.

One thing to keep in mind when keeping an eye out for speed modders is that it IS possible to have your cruise speed exceed 350 by use of formations. So just because someone is managing to escape/close in doesn't automatically mean that they are speed modding.

Another thing: From what I understand, it is rather difficult to sanction for speed modding via screenshots. Its something that they generally rely on the server to catch. Keep in mind though, I'm in no way an admin, so I may be completely wrong about that.

When someone goes "whoosh" either Korrd's beastly-awesome anti-cheat will catch and kill them, or they F1'd. In either event, take a screen ASAP and take another one if you see a "departing player:" message. If you're concerned someone might do this (silent trader with funny name, for example) try to get a screenshot before they go "whoosh".

By the way - nothing quite gives appropriate evidence of something happening like a video. Since with the free version of Fraps, you can make a 30 second video anytime you want - and I happen to have mine keyed to f9, with f10 for screenshots - it's pretty darn simple to have something backing up what you're talking about.

Good advice guys. F1'ing seems plausable. Any info on where we can get Fraps free version?

Why so?

This one has always confused me so I'd like to get it right. The pirate hits cruise to run off and you hit cruise to chase. This is illegal???? I can see that it may be against server rules but against rp I cannot accept. It's like a cop chasing a theif through a city then the theif hits the freeway and the cop says" ooops, cannot go on there, that's against the rules!". Here I am using the freeway as an example of where a car would hit cruise speed.

Every pirate who has attacked me where I've managed to hit cruise and make some distance, has also hit cruise to chase me down. Is this one way? Can the civilian or police not do the same???

A clear description of said rule and how it moddels real life would do wonders for my rp'ing.

Whoever uses cruise first is considered to be fleeing; thus, the follower may cruise to catch up, but the person who cruised first may not re-engage on his or her own terms. So, in this case, he was allowed to cruise and to engage.
