I've been meaning to present these questions for you Weapons' Dealers out there for sometime now.
Please answer the following questions as truthfully and as objectively as you are able.
On a side note: I don't have an invested interest in your activity, being the dyed-in-the-wool capship jock that I am. So no hidden agendas to worry about.
Some / all of these question may seem stupid to you, but take into account that I personally am fairly ignorant of how the weapons' dealer operates here - having never needed their services.
If you believe that answering a certain question will reveal too much about your trade secrets, skip it and go to the next question. I don't require the names of your dealer characters.
In the spirit of the Holidays, please keep this thread civil. If it starts imploding, I'll request it to be locked.
Now for the questions...
1) What ship class do you operate out of?
2) What's your ID and IFF?
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise?
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts?
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character?
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery?
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience?
1) What ship class do you operate out of? Armoured Transports with cap6 armour.
2) What's your ID and IFF? Interspace for both, [IND] player faction
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise? Not in the least. I support people trying to grab my stock. Keeps the game interesting and me on my toes.
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts? The [IND] Epsilon wing (bounty hyunter bombers) are nearly always around whem I'm selling. 5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character? Because I wanted to try an alternative to trading. I've not replaced it completely, but it provides something to do when I'm a little bored. I like selling stuff.
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery? Weapons dealers bring a very pure salesmanship roleplay to disco. I think weapons dealers are great. You can find a fantasically eccentric personailty for your weapons dealer and just enjoy your time on it. I think that brings a lot of discovery.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience? I would be a little upset as it would cause weapons dealers to go. There are some fantasically well roleplayed gun dealers and folks would be brought back to pure trading and the bariation would go. That would be rather sad.
Plus codenames would get spammed by players rather a lot were they readily available.

1) What ship class do you operate out of?
Royal Liner, Universal Armour Mk VIII
2) What's your ID and IFF?
Zoner, gives me some freedom.
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise?
There certainly isn't, and I've been attacked in the past by greedy terrorists or pirates. However, if you're good enough at what you're doing, other people will defend your merchandise.
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts?
I've hired escorts in the past, why not. Everyone wants to protect the merchandise.
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character?
To be honest, I just liked the Royal Liner, and I bought it even if I had another trade ship. So I though I'd find a use for it - 'equipment shop' and also a museum, in RP.
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery?
I think it's a wonderful experience for everyone, the thrill of getting a better price and all. Plus, I never worry if I'm not managing to sell anything in a day, the stuff will still be there for everyone, just like in real life.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience?
As I've said above, I'm not selling just codenamed weapons. I'm also dealing rare equipment, or just ordinary merchandise. So it might cut down on profits, but it'll still make for some great roleplay.
1) What ship class do you operate out of? 2 Bretonian Royal Liners, 1 Luxury Liner, 1 Prison liner, 1 Zoner Dessie, 7 Transports
2) What's your ID and IFF? No IFF, Trader or Zoner ID's, possibly changing to IND.
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise? Hahahhahahahahahhaa, no.
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts? Of course, the S/D escort me a lot after I donated 6 Supernova cannons to them.
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character? To be rich:D
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery? I suppose it doesn't really, I mean, I help people get guns and stuff quickly, so they don't have to go into area's they wouldn't go in RP, but other than that, not much.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience? Probably. The entire point of Arms Dealer's would be gone.
1) What ship class do you operate out of?
1 Zoner Juggernaut (flagship- cap mk 8), 2 Luxery Liners (1 cap mk 8, 1 cap mk 7).
2) What's your ID and IFF?
Interspace tag and ID.
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise?
Nope. Armoury and Co. are fair game to pirates. only difference is, they choose not to pirate me due to a variety of reasons.
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts?
The Armoury and Co. (at least mine) hire escorts everytime they decide to move/shift places. most of the time, they are docked.
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character?
Trading is by far the most boring aspect of the game for me. selling guns is another method of making money, and it isnt as tedious and boring as i find trading to be. plus, im good at what i do.
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery?
My dealer (who owns the Armoury franchise) is truly, as the movie showed, a Lord of War. I dont take sides, but i supply guns to anyone and everyone who is willing to pay. normally, people looking to buy guys come to me in PM, where we stick to RP still. however, when there are no sales, i do engross myself in RP that may be going on in System chat.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience?
Not in the least. there are many people who hate travelling to pick up guns. for example, minirazors are sold either on omega 49, or New york aboard my armoury. take a guess where people would go for guns.
1) What ship class do you operate out of? Liberty Cruiser
2) What's your ID and IFF? Zoner Guard IFF and Zoner ID
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise? Nope, although i've never been attacked because i'm careful about my business.
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts? Nah, not normally. If people want to try and take me out, they can. But nobody has tried yet and in any case, a Liberty Cruiser with cap 8 armour tends to discourage attacks. Occasionally, if i'm going into the edge worlds etc, i'll probably take an escort.
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character? Trading is more boring. At least with arms dealing you get to travel all over Sirius and interact with lots of different people.
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery? For pretty much the same reasons as all the others have listed.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience?
Yeah, they're not meant to be *that* common. Besides, it'd mean I would have to trade to get all my money. In 4.85 the trading system has been overhauled so should make a difference to trading in the future, and some weapons are being placed in every single guard system so there won't be as much business for arms dealers stocking them in future (note: supernovas, mini-razors, class 10 shields of all types etc). Shouldn't be a huge problem, but you never know. I would prefer it if codenames were left obtainable only from wrecks, however.
1) What ship class do you operate out of?
3 Liberty cruisers and 2 prison liners (all getting changed to Zoner destroyers when 4.85 comes out)
2) What's your ID and IFF?
LPI and Universal shipping (all getting changed to Zoner Guard)
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise?
Nope anyone can try to steal my goods but they would find it hard to do as I am very cautious, the only time I'd bring my stores out would be to do business with someone who PM's me or to do any stock transfers.:P
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts?
Yes I hire escorts, when my stores are holding a lot of goods and they need moving somewhere else then I'll hire the Mandalorian mercenaries as I give them quite a few jobs to do including escort work.
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character?
I do quite a bit of trading ingame but as everyone knows it can get a bit tedious so I decided to try being an arms dealer for a change and started off with a single store, my original plan for the one store was to sell codenames and any other guns/equipment that I found on my travels but then I started to get a lot of PMs ingame from people asking for weapons, that is when I realised that being an arms dealer could turn out to be quite profitable (and interesting) so I went about expanding by making a second store and gradually working my way up, now fast forward to today and I now own five stores in total.
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery?
There are times when people will be in need of guns and equipment but don't have the means or time to go about getting the equipment themselves so they turn to an arms dealer such as myself for help, by selling them guns and equipment I am providing a useful service that benefits them and other people that come to me for weapons.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience?
If they were able to be purchased on some bases then I would lose a -lot- of sales but I'd find some other way to make up for the loss if that ever happened.
1) What ship class do you operate out of? 2 Armoured Transports, may make a third
2) What's your ID and IFF? Trader ID/No IFF
3) Is there a sort of "gentlemen's agreement" in place, ensuring that other players don't try to steal your merchandise? Nope
4) If you are "fair game" to other players, do you hire escorts? Not many people try to pirate me so I don't really use 'em.
5) Why did you decide to create a Weapons' Dealer character? Because one day I decided to make a little dealer guy for all the weps I collected while trading/exploring, and some guy sold me some codies for cheap so I took them and sold them, thus creating Bauer.Weapons
6) How does your role as a Weapons' Dealer benefit the overall rp experience of other players on Discovery? More interaction with other people I guess.
7) If codenames were a purchasable item on some bases (Zoner Freeports, for example), would that ruin your playing experience?
Codies are supposed to be rare weapons so I think yeah it would be.
[10:10:28 AM] Josh (Dejavu): Bauer is legendary to the LPI, I joined because I wanted to be that epic.
