I think most capships are getting a larger powercore, not a nerf. And I seriously doubt the increase will be so drastic that you won't be able to fire your guns if you don't upgrade.

You still won't be competitive, and that's what matters.

I've got an idea that doesn't involve hassle for the admin team *gasp*. Rather simple too. Based on the understanding that powercores will be a buyable, mountable item next mod, just make it so that the old, obsolete, effectively useless ones we'll have from this version aren't sold anywhere, and the dealers buy them back for the same price as the new ones are bought for. Voila, cap owners don't have to shell out cash for a ship they already paid for by trading for a month (re-buying fighters takes 30 mins of trading, re-buying a bship is a week or two of trading at minimum (unless you have absolutely no life), if anyone is that much of an arsehole to demand them to do that they can go hang), admins don't have to do squat, and everyone stays competitive.

By the way, it's not "new gear", its what the old gear should have been. Not an "upgrade" even if the stats go up- it's a downgrade if you don't pay huge amounts of money. No offense, but Hoodlum's post seems unfairly hostile. Owning a capital ship does not make you the devil or anything... plus, if you want to see them squirm, they have to get Guard IDs anyway. Seriously... updating the mod and callously demanding that all cap drivers are non-competitive unless they trade for another few weeks is sure way to get people to leave. Do you want that?

Again, it's your choice to buy the big boys. The ships currently in the mod will have their power plants unchanged, the new ships will have better powerplants. You CAN keep the old ship, the only thing it will have against it will be the lesser powerplant. Drake is right, you'll still be able to fight the ship with the current powerplant, but it won't be as good as the new ones.

And no, as I understand it, you can't just buy a new powercore, you need to buy a whole new ship.

Now, imagine the alternative... A full player wipe, to put everyone on exactly the same footing. Would you rather trade for 2/3 of the ships cost, or would you rather trade to buy back everything?

Every time you post here, that's 5 minutes of trade time you just lost.

I have 310mil stored up for 4.85, and I have about another 90mil or so to go. That'll take me anywhere from two days to a week an a half. I've also gotten guard rep for my two caps that I'll have.

And yeah, I agree with Sovereign. Hood, your post did seem a bit hostile. I have no problem with trading though, as I've sold several of my ships and traded a lot to get that cash. But seriously, a lot of the battleship owners out there are working on guard rep - powertrading to rebuy such a ship isn't exactly easy.

And don't delete this. Doing that is abuse of power.

Would that really be fair to censor a discussion? We're keeping it civil. [For the most part, it would seem.]

Way to gravedig.

Lucky it wasn't hostile wasn't it, just getting a little bored with the buzzsaw whining noises though ... You have
all had an enormous amount of time to prepare for this, and now you are arguing about it ?
There is no money for updates, there never has been. The BS license was the exception. This is the thing with
a very dynamic mod, everything changes, and so do the prices on the equipment. If you are going to leave
because someone upped the cost of gear, then question your motives please ...

So now both sides are seen clearly. Hood, you have a point here as well. This last month or so has been a good time to save, as some have.

What percentage of price increase are we looking at, out of curiosity?

Neutral.

You know, you don't have to be quite so abrasive in your posts. Noone here is whining as you claim, we are merely making points. In fact I could say you yourself are whining as well. Heck any post can be considered whining to some extent.

Point of the matter is though.. you claim we've had so long to prepare, however we really haven't. We've received little to no warning as to what to expect to need to re-buy/purchase. Nearly every thread that has popped up regarding this issue has been closed with the argument of "please wait till 4.84 is released".
