Ok if you in RP state your intent to ingage a group of fighter's(all in same group) and 1 cruises away to get a cap ship(switch char's) is this breaking the fleeing/re-ingaging rule?

If you announced engage, and you was in combat range (well this is problem what is combat range... It should be 5k) yes, it was reengaging.

Interesting, but I'm pretty sure that the ship in question is not in PvP until:
A: His shields were brought down by %50
B: He already started firing himself
I do see a wtfpwn in this situation, but it is kind of the hazard of approaching the enemy if they are right by their base, they are able to field their ships quicker in responce to a threat.

i dont think you can engage a "Group" at the same time, its one by one,so if the fleeing guys are not the guys you target in your primary attack, its perfectly legal.

Im not sure but its how i see that.

If you haven't started shooting yet, then no.

If you've already started shooting, then yes.

All good answer's, but as i see no one really know's for sure. Everyone has there own oppinion on this rule.
I would like to see what an admin has to say here.
Pirating can not happen if a single cap is grouped with other pirate's, but yet a ship in a group can fly away, change ship's,and come back, and this is not re-ingaging? I see no real diffence, but i will not argue with anyone. Until i see an Admin state how this work's, all my ship's will just not engage, and fly off to dock.
As it stand's a large group can have 1 ship keep someone busy.while everyone else in the group flies away to get the best ship for the fight, and come back without breaking a rule. I find this very wrong.

If that particular ship hasn't engaged you yet, it's obviously not re-engaging.

3 Outcasts and you.

1. You say 'Engaging Outcasts' or something along those lines.
That refers to ALL in that group, unless you specify people who you do not want to engage.

2. You say 'Engaging Soandso' or something along those lines.
That refers to the ONE person, not the whole group.

In the 1st instance, they cannot run away and change ships unless agreed upon with your consent etc. Since they were all Engaged by you, even through RP chat only, they would be fleeing and so break the rules if they came back.

In the 2nd instance, the rest of the group CAN run away and change ships if they want. You specified who you were engaging, meaning you were not engaging the rest. They are not involved (unless they make themselves involved, or you speak further etc) in the Engagement and thus are free to operate normally.

That is exactly how it would work within the rules, regardless of opinions.

Yet the rules say that engagement only happens if you are fired upon/drained shields to 50%, the rules don't say that you can engage someone by talking to him. Makes little sense. I could come in a ship in some system, say i'm engaging everyone, and if they don't engage me back they'd all be fleeing? Hence why an attack constitutes engagement, not words.

*Thinks of the utter devastation Skye could do with that idea*
