It seems to me that a bit of complaining or a loss or two in a combat will get anything nerfed.
I know the gunship has a few features that leave many thinking it's some kind of superpowered uber ship but it can, and is, killed by fighters, bombers or anything bigger once you stand and slug it out. It is poorly armoured, even when equipped with the best upgrades, compared to any of the others.
The gunship can destroy a less agile gunboat or one flown by a pilot who isn't as experienced, but why should the solution necessarily be to nerf the ship rather than increase your own skill and practice a bit?
I's said before and I'll say it again. These demands for "balancing" ships wouldn't be coming if people were winning fights. And picking yet again on a BHG ship is yet another example of the school of thought that would prefer to see hunters using piranhas and persuasion. In 4.85 I predict whinging corsair players who get killed by gunships in their bombers, even though that is apparently what it is supposed to do. Either that or you'll be so untouchable murdering other player's helpless traders in the Omegas without any fear of consequence that you'll wonder why you play this game at all.
From my experience, a properly flown gunship will never beat a properly flown lunchbox and can stand toe to toe with alomst every other gunboat in game when the gunship has Cap MK 8 Armor and the opponent has regular 2.5x armor. The opposing player just needs to learn the right tactics to deal with the smaller more agile, yet less armor and bots/bats. Without the cap 8 you would have to be real lucky to destroy any other gunboat. My gunship cost 940 million to compete with your 50 mil gunboat. (That is the real reason the nerf hurts so much. It took a lot of time and effort to get the Cap MK 8.)
The only arena it truly excels at is against multiple bombers or when flown in groups. It is by far the hardest cap ship in game to supernova. It therefore in my opinion plays it's role pretty well.
It does fairly well against destroyers and cruisers, only when the opposing player does not know his own weaknesses or how to counter it, ie stays in regular view the whole fight and i get behind him or goes into turret view and lets me stay in his turret blind spot.
I think i am a better pilot in mine, and i always lose to veteran lunchboxes and cruisers (cept Huntress, those poor captains), and am about 50/50 with good rogue gunboats. Against 2-3 bombers i usually win when i equip 1-2 misssiles after a long, long involved fun battle.
' Wrote:which one is it that has the flawed hitbox, or am i dreaming again?
It does apparently have a flawed hitbox. It requires aim to hit.
And it might be hard to SN but not impossible, just requires teamwork. Even getting a fighter to help you works. Try, for example, deliberately ramming a gunship so that it stops just as your buddy comes around for a SN shot. Oh wait that's cheating.
Avoid the temptation to joust a bomber in a gunship. That agility may yet be its downfall.
Kambei, I'm fairly sure the Armoured Transport is not a Gunboat. To the extent of my knowledge it has much lower stats, can't even use Gunboat equipment, and the only thing it really has going for it are the two extra class 10 gun mounts.
So we did a test with a friend, he was using his BH gunship, I my Corsair Gboat.
I was in turret view going in a straight line. We both had lvl8 armor.
I was using a full set of Corsair turrets, and him a mix of Solaris, Cerberus, and missile turrets.
He was following me in the same line.
We both started shooting at the same time, keeping our distance constant.
He still won despite my heavy damage, and despite my heavier hitpoints.
It has NOTHING to do with skill or training, the gunship has simply too much tank to be considered a gunship.
The way it is now its tank is up on Gunboat standards.
Proportionately, with lighter weapons on his side, in such a test, he'd still manage to take me down to 1/4 hull before dying.
Normally I think, he should be dead a few seconds before attempting at a couple scratches to my hull with lighter weapons, and down to a third of my hull with heavier.
Having it like that should keep away from the one off BH guy coming in with his gunship and bringing down 2-3 gunboats to himself. Right now, gunboat shields according to a single gunship pilot simply means Cake!
All lightness and agility considered...
PS: Yes maybe I'm also one of those who thinks we should get rid of capital ships alltogether, no more balance issues, just pure fun and skill! (JOKE)
:yahoo:

Sorry but you're out of luck there, find another server if that's the attitude you're gonna take, since a good 30-50% of the people here fly capships.
I have heard that the BH gunship is having two of it's turrets made rear-facing only, not sure on that though. I do know that the new model it's getting in 4.85 will be much easier to hit, however =)

It was a joke. :$
I hear a lot of different things yet to happen for gunships, which ones ultimately will happen, who knows...
