Smuggling like trading should be in RP, the geniric ID's are way way too abused. Players should not be smuggling through Alaska like traders should not be runnin through Chugoku.
I look forward too seeing smugglers deliver to Junker bases insteed of flying a lawful blockade at Planet Manhattan and shouting "Cant touch me" on comms! Total RP buzz kill that. Like the law wouldnt deny docking on a identified smuggler or arrest the offending crew on landing. Same goes for an unauthorised landing on Malta, like the Corsairs wouldnt eat the crew on landing!
Generally I'm not a fan of more rules but in-RP behaviour should be examined.
' Wrote:Weed, I think you are missing my point, what I am saying is that just like there are different types of traders, designated by different factions, there are also different types of smugglers, designated by their relations with factions and their rp. Just like there should be good in-rp routes for the different types of traders, there should be good in-rp routes for the different type of smugglers. One of the reasons the Alaska issue is such a big one is the lack of good in-rp routes for selling artifacts. That is not to excuse use of the Alaska route, I dont use it, people shouldn't use it, save for with some exceptional rp, but if there were better options people would be less inclined to use it.

well i use Outcasts ID to smuggle cardamine but i think the Smuggler is good enough. You do not need to get spetial ID Smuggelr id puts you in bad posision with the law anyhow and show you are working for the scums. but who are you working for exactly no one knows

and i agree with every word. You fast dock on a lawfull base while spoted is sooooo non RP.
Simply look to offload the incoming contraband on Junker bases, and Corsairs have a fair number of routes, most obvious of which being light arms/Artifacts.
The real problem with factionalised smugglers is that, while Republican may export diamonds all the way from New Berlin to Kyushu or Leeds, the smuggling routes are managed in stages. Corsairs take the artifacts to the Hawaii, Yanagi or Trafalgar, from whence the Hogosha/Junkers distribute them. The same is true for cardamine. Outcasts will take it as far as Mactan or Buffalo, and, from there, Rogues, Hackers and Junkers will distribute it throught Liberty.
However, this is not easy to replicate in game mechanics. While one could make artifacts sell for $100 on Crete, buy and sell for $1100 on the Hawaii, buy and sell for $1850 on Leiden and sell for $2100 on Manhattan, this may make it profitable to be a Hogosha smuggler and run artifacts on their leg, or a Corsair smuggler to supply the Hogosha hauling from the Hawaii, there will always be "independant", tagless smugglers going start to finish, in order to make the most profit from each unit of their cargo, whatever the lore states about how the contraband should be handled.
Could not have said it better weedalot u want to avoid lawfuls not go Hey look at me im right here u cant miss me. On that subject i have been sited for using hacker space and others differnce is i am a smuggler and they look friendly twords me so i give them a nice donation god knows they gotta work there arse off to get what little they can piriting.

Just because you can get your rep in line does not mean it's in rp. Say for instance a Corsair ship sees you docking on a Outcast base while in a battle. Then later he see's you docking on Crete, you think he isnt going to get in contact with the authorities on Crete and have you executed? The people you trade with and conduct business with have an effect on the way people see you. Now I am not saying get rid of the generic smuggler id or for that matter the generic trader id. I am saying that you should do routes that are in rp for your character.
Lastly Mythical, if you think something is in-rp for you to do because you can get your rep board to look that way, you sir, are doing it wrong.
ever seen star trek ? that little breed of scum who trade evenly with opposing factions same concept i dont give a rats arse if they see me docking on crete then malta so long as im not bringing them cardi to crete then artifacts to malta i'm fime it's a nutrual ground they dont really like us but were there to stay we work for our selvs and we ship there goods who ever we work for at the time is our buisness they compete for our buisness. As i said earlier i work for my self no one faction if u dont like it do something about it till then quite you.
And zealot ure the last person to be talking about dooing anything wrong.

If I see you docking on a hostile base, you can bet anything that next time I meet you, I'll treat you as a hostile...and encourage my allies to do so.
Hell, anyone caught even thinking about taking war materials north of Leeds is added to the "undesirables" list of Bretonia and hunted down by all lawful operatives whenever encountered.
Your actions, not what you paint on the side of your ship, are what define your relationships.
