but seriously - we stopped at some point adding / replacing - we have over 250 ships now.... that should be enough to suit everyone - from the space cockroach up to a half goddess.

btw.. here is a ship that always impressed me



from the old moviepicture "dune" - a guild transport - this thing was truely collossal - and totally unarmed but a nice example of simplistic ships.

It's really perfect for this game considering it's shape as well. It would be an import though so obviously it wont happen. Maybe if the storyline is moved forward, oh, I dunno, 1000 years, after the harvesters have fought a bloody rebellion aginst biologics and the use of thinking machines has been outlawed and careful use of a cardamine like substance has led to the creation of mutated humans that can navigate through space..... ;)

I've actually thought about the reasons, purposes, methods, materials, and form in which the Order could feasibly develop something of a "flagship". Obviously nothing as large as the Tempest etc. but I have a nice design in my mind and a great name and everything about it.
Doubt the Order will get such a flagship, but it's a nice thought to satisfy my mind:)

But maybe certain minor pirate factions (with the exception of the corsairs and outcasts) could work together to make a battleship class vessel as their flagship? Like, molly's, rogues, and whoever else, but then again I don't know much about pirates.

I just like thinking about my imaginary Order flagship thing:)

Remember; Tempest was not built from scratch. It's actually a vessel retrofitted over decades, a relic from 8 centuries ago dating back to the end of the Coalition-Alliance war. Coalition simply took the massive hull, and slowly upgraded it to Sirius technologies.

(as such, if Tempest is actually the Volgograd... where is the JiangXi, its sister ship?.... =P)

On flagship;
True, my original concept of a flagship is something large. Immense. A hugeweapon platform. Isn't this on our perception, might?
But to the book of modern warfare, size matters little. Really, an admiral usually won't choose his flag in accordance to firepower but will also consider all its strategical value, and sometime, a smaller, faster ship might just be what you really want.

For the Order, if they ever had a flagship, I'd think of a craft barely larger or maybe same size as Osiris.

Now that's what I was thinking:)

Just a bit bigger than the Osiris, maybe a lib. dreadnought which is bit bigger (I think).

I had in mind, cut an Osiris horizontally in half, fill in the middle but infront add some cannon or something, that would be the "superweapon". The whole ship would be powered by none other than a nomad power cell hehe.

Now add those spikes like in the recon cruiser, and add sort of "wings" like in the order gunboat. Then make it look all awsome and add some Orderness and Swissness (yes that's a real word) and make it look amazing like a "bird of prey" sort of thing.

And the name? Well none other than Ra, the egyptian god of war.

It's a whole lot cooler in my mind:)

Basically the research since the start of the Order's existance, and help (materialistic and all) from corsairs and zoners and all other factions who wanted to help in the war against the nomads would send supplies and tech to the Order, which we then put together to build this thing.

And yes, I completely agree with what you said. Rheinland for example should definitely have like the biggest badest meanest thing ever. Which they do:)

Strategy with big ships is to not charge in a large dreadnought with long range powerful guns would sit and let the opponents come to it because if a ship such as this had a range of 3k with heavy guns while the approaching enemy ships have a range of lets say 1.8k then you have that 1.2k range advantage to level the playing field. Range but also being able to escape from a hairy situation. Because the Coalition would have a smaller fleet than the Houses they would be able to do the damage and get out and having a large flag ship such as this one is perfect for defending the homeland. While the gunships can run raids and along with a cruiser take on larger ships. Your designs give way to perfectly designed firepower:maneuverability ratio also tactics involved in a fight range from the damage a shot you or your opponent does. Its almost a game of chicken to win. If you charge a ship about your same size and the same amount of power then it is up to you to be able to get a little bit ahead of them in damage so that you can force them to either retreat or die. The best tactical decisions are often made in the heat of battle. But also the worst. If your the ship that decides to run that puts you at a huge disadvantage cause like I said they can bombard you for a long range. So unless you got backup best be careful...

Main point is, this ship is more for: Intimidation, support fire in a frontal assault, and also a "meatshield" if you will, to take the heavy fire of the enemy fleet.
At least that's how I see it.
